What's it like at Marunuma Kogen resort?

Marunuma Kogen Ski Resort (Japan) Marunuma Kogen Ski Resort, located in Gunma Prefecture, is the highest-altitude ski resort in the region, with its ropeway summit station reaching 2,000 metres above sea level. Thanks to its elevation, Marunuma Kogen is well known for its dry, light powder snow, often compared to the snow quality found in Hokkaido and Shiga Kogen. These reliable conditions make it a popular destination for skiers and snowboarders seeking consistent winter snow. The resort also offers unique views of Mount Nikko-Shirane, whose distinctive shape resembles the kanji character for “mountain” (山). Marunuma Kogen is the only place in Japan where this iconic mountain silhouette can be seen so clearly from a ski area, attracting visitors for sightseeing as well as skiing. There are no cross-country ski trails, but Marunuma Kogen is highly regarded as a resort dedicated to alpine skiing and snowboarding, with a wide variety of groomed runs. The Center Station provides comprehensive facilities including lift ticket counters, ski and snowboard rentals, a day-use hot spring, restaurants, cafés, and shops selling souvenirs and local products. Access By car: Approx. 50 minutes from Numata Interchange (Kan-Etsu Expressway) via Route 120 toward Oze and Nikko By train & bus: From Tokyo via Joetsu Shinkansen to Jomo-Kogen Station, bus to Kamada, then taxi Day trips: Direct bus tours available from Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, Tokorozawa, Kawagoe, and Machida Trails.
