We've just had our first great week in Kronplatz. We selected the resort for snow/sunshine/cruise blue runs. All of which was correct to the brochure. The snow was well maintained. Grades were very true. So no surprises off the top of a lift which was important on our confidence building holiday. The runs are open & vast so a crowd at the top soon disperses and we had plenty of space. All bars were good value. The ski bus to Le Villa was great to open more area and accessible via the gondola if you didn't fancy the true blacks to get to the same place. Only down side was we found no bars at the bases for end of day drinks which was odd. Going back to our hotel was fine but we missed any cheesy 'apres' on the slope. For longer ski days the Sella Rhonda would have been a full-on day but possible from here.
Lovely resort. Great snow, good value and very few English people. All staff at resort and in restaurants on pistes helpful and food is relatively good value; plentiful tasty food on slopes. The resort works hard to keep pistes in excellent condition.
I would definitely go again but more advanced skiers will find this one resort more limiting so should get the Superski pass for an extra £30 per week to allow them to go to other nearby resorts as well.
I would like to warn all the skiers not to book their holidays at an Apartment Unterberger in Kronplatz. The owner is a fraud. He robbed us for 350 EUR. We made a small damage on the door made from cardboard. I ckecked later and I found out that a new door of that kind should not cost more than 100 EUR. He told us that he will send us a bill when he fixes the door and return us any leftover money, but he never did so. When I called him about that problem he just shouted something at me and then hung up. Nevertheless, his wife is also very unfrendly. We were told, that check out time is at 10 a.m. but she told us, that it was at 9 a.m. and kicked us out even before 9.00 a.m. It is a horrible place to stay.
Went skiing in Kronplatz in the first week of Feb 2008. Snow making in resort is excellent so you will be guaranteed good skiing. Link to Sella Ronda via Alta Badia takes too long for it to be considered a linked resort. However, it is a hidden gem so is never too busy. Note there was only about 20 English people in resort when I was there and as such the language is not widely spoken.
Have just returned from Kronplatz where we had an excellent week. Kronplatz is a hidden gem as far as the UK market is concerned. It's not a massive area but there is certainly enough to keep most people entertained for a week, and the more adventurous have always got the option of visiting Alta Badia, via the link, for an away day. It's the best resort I've ever been to for facilities - there are no buttons or t-bars whatsoever and only a couple of chairs, and everything else is gondolas. The snow-making facilities are second to none and the slopes were kept in fantastic condition especially as there was no snow lower down the mountain! There are lots of blue runs and a few challenging blacks, only a couple of red runs, one of which is pretty gentle. It's very difficult to get lost as most of the resort runs are down one mountain with gondolas everywhere. The only problem with the resort is the fighting you have to do in the queues, with most of the other visitors being quite happy to push others around, batter you with their skis and occasionally give your children abuse if they are unlucky enough to get in their way! However, all the staff / locals were lovely and I will definitely be returning.
