Gulmarg is one of the best ski resorts in the entire world. The ski slopes of Gulmarg have no comparison. Powder ski at its best, with downhill time of average 30mins. This place is very beautiful, untouched and peaceful. Highly recommend to visit this place.

We have been going to Gulmarg since 2008. We followed many of the ups and downs of the political climate in the region. Summer 2019 was once again sad for the people of Kashmir. The good news is that normalcy is settling. Most landline and postpaid phones are working since Sept 10. Tourists are back since Oct 10. Since then, we spoke with several friends and partners in Kashmir. They all say the same thing. “Things are calm and normal”, “There are no problems here”, “Tourists are coming”, etc. We were also told that the Western Snow Safety Officer will be in Gulmarg on duty and that the Gulmarg Gondola will be operational. We also have been informed that Kashmir Heliski will be operational. If you decide to ski Gulmarg in 2020, it can only mean one thing... More snow as there will be only a few on location. Hope it helps.

Be very careful. I stayed for a month in Feb 2018. From the moment we arrived at Srinigar airport i was very scared. Hawkers are everywhere and impersonate guides. It is a country at war and this is evident from leaving the airport. I have never seen anything like it with regard to poverty and rubbish. The ski resort is far from international and the hotels (at best) are like the worst UK hostels. Gangs of men and a lack of any female presence is shocking. You cannot go on the stage 2 part of the gondola if you do not have an avalanche bag. You have to sign a disclaimer before you alight. No pisted runs and very crude signage. Gondola stage 1 is a mountain bike run that would scare the most experienced intermediate. Overrun by rich Indians that treat the Kashmiris like skivies... it's like going back in time. Hundreds of affluent Indians doing selfies and being very vain. Having said all this you will never meet such wonderful, humble people as the Kashmiris. My advice would be do your homework first. We went with Ski Gulmarg and could easily have gone solo as we had little or no input from them the entire trip.

Gulmarg is one of the India’s premier ski resorts. And there is a good reason for this; it is not only home to some of the world’s highest peaks. It also offers unbelievable long runs and some incredible backcountry riding.
