Alto del Padre is a growing backcountry ski area, located in the heart of the Chilean Central Andes. The place is a huge area that used to be tracked by Chilean Cowboys. Proof of this are the rustic shelters you can see in the steppe used to survive when the storms came. We've been there snowmobiling and skinning up with Alpine Touring Skis; got some runs in inc a two or three thousand feet vertical drop run. Last year they were just starting building Dusty Rodes and a small mountain lodge at five thousand feet, I guess this year might be done. I bet it could be one of the greatest backcountry ski areas in the Central Andes in the short-term.
