Morzine summary

Popular Morzine (Haute Savoie region) is one of the closest, major, French resorts to the gateway city of Geneva. It is in the middle of one of the most extensive ski regions in the Alps: the Portes du Soleil. This is a ski circus that connects 15 resorts in France and Switzerland. In addition to Morzine on the French side of the border are: Avoriaz, Les Gets, Montriond, St.-Jean d'Aulps, Abondance, and La Chapelle. The Swiss resorts are Planachaux, Champery, Les Crosets, Val-d'Illiez, Champoussin, Morgins, Chatel and Torgon. Portes du Soleil has overwhelming statistics: runs up to seven miles long, 403 miles of tended trails and slopes, limitless off-piste terrain and 207 lifts of every shape, size and description. The entire region is available on a hands-free, electronic pass tucked into a parka. Half of Morzine's slopes are rated beginner or intermediate, which attracts families to this resort which is a traditional village with old buildings and a colorful history. It partners in promotion with the purpose-built resort of Avoriaz, a mile higher and with treeless slopes that appeal to powder seekers. Avoriaz is a popular jumping off spot for the trip across the border to Swiss resorts. Morzine has 3 new 6-man chairlifts, a new high-speed chairlift, and a Magic Carpet.

Resorts close to Morzine include: St Jean d'Aulps/Espace Roc d'Enfer (2 km), Montriond (2 km), Les Gets (6 km), Praz De Lys Sommand (6 km), Avoriaz (7 km),

Visitor Reviews of Morzine

Rupert from SWITZERLAND writes:

I feel compelled to comment. Kenny, mate, can we at least try and fathom your, in my humble opinion, utterly un-just review of Morzine, can you at least provide your comparison resorts.
Further, how you can call Morzine a horrible resort is beyond me, for one it isn't simply a resort it's a town with a heritage dating back 1000 years, when the area was settled by monks. As for your comment go to Avoriaz instead, well it's part of the same commune. As for queues, well surprisingly enough, my friend, yes half-term is a busy time of the year. From Morzine you can reach Avoriaz by one cable car, two multiple cabin gondolas, one three man chair linking to a six man high speed chair. Going the other way towards Les Gets you again have multiple options, one multiple cabin gondola, one chair and a cable car.
So my questions for you really boil down to.

1. Was it your first time?
2. Did you actually talk to anyone who knows the area and could have told you how to get about at busy times?
3. Did you get a piste map and try and work it out for yourself?
4. Did you have an early or late lunch to avoid your queues or, God forbid, take a buttie and ride/ski through the lunch period when even in half-term it's quiet !!!!!?
5. Did you try going to The Grande Terche during your stay !?
6. Start from the Nyon cable Car?
7. Get out of bed for the first lift or cable car up to Avoriaz?
8. Do you have any off-piste skills? It's possible to spend the entire day off the beaten track during half-term !?

Basically, before you whinge about anything (and I mean anything) in the future qualify your argument.
Bit like choosing The Horgarth road in rush hour and whinging you're in a jam. Local knowledge my friend, oh and of course the thing in the front of your face, next time ask !!!
