Visitor Reviews of Flumserberg

Antonis from United Kingdom writes:

Flumserberg is surprisingly good. I was taken by surprise when I visited this resort. I was on a connection flight from the UK to Greece with a stop-over at Zurich airport. My first flight arrived in Zurich in the morning (about 9.30am) and the connecting flight was leaving at around 8pm. Being a ski-maniac I looked at my options before I left home. On the internet Flumserberg didn’t look too exciting but it was the closest resort to Zurich and it had good snow-cover, so that was enough for me.

To cut the story short, the plane landed at 9.30. I took my hand-luggage with my ski-pants, gloves and goggles in it and off to the train. At 10am I was on the train and on my way to the resort. After 1h 15min I came off the train, crossed the road and on to the gondola. It is literally a 2 min walk. At 11.30am I was at the resort. That is UK to a ski resort in less than 5hrs Oh, yes.

Unfortunately, I spent only 5hrs in the resort and all of them where on the slopes so I can’t comment on the village and the food or lifestyle. But what I can comment on is skiing and I have to say it is brilliant. The slopes are not endless and extremely steep as in other mainstream resorts but they are good enough for anyone who wants to enjoy a few days skiing. Beginners are well catered for as there are numerous blue runs long enough to let them practice but not too long to exhaust them. Most pistes are wide and well groomed. Intermediates will also enjoy skiing the red runs of the resort. Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time to venture off-piste but I was assured that there is some fun off the beaten track for the enthusiasts.

I am certainly going back, probably for a bit more than half a day and will provide you with some more info. But after my brief visit to the resort I can conclude that it is by far the place to go for a skiing weekend. And it is not a compromise. It is actually good fun. By the way, it is dead cheap (not renting though, that is a bit expensive so you’d better bring your own gear). Try it the next time you want to go to a budget resort; it is miles ahead of some eastern European ones. And yes, I did make it to the second flight, it really is 1h15m away from the airport.
