One of the most northerly places to ski in Germany, Braunlage (Braunlage Wurmberg) is rather a place to visit for a weekend when there is enough snow and you happen to be in the area. There is a gondola from the village onto the summit of the Wurmberg and two T-bars on the mountain itself. There are some quite long runs from the top back down into the village. The slopes are all pretty easy, so perfect for beginners. Advanced skiers and boarders should head for the "Hexenritt" run or, after some new snow, try the off-piste under the "Sprungschanze". After a good dump you can have a lot of fun here.
It will get very full at weekends, bank or school holidays and the gondola is old and very slow/small cabins, so there might be queues.
Overall though, still the best mountain in the Harz mountains.
