3 yrs ago in late Sept, myself and 4 friends managed to find our way by road to the unmarked base area, arriving at 2 am, woke up the caretaker/lodge mgr, who checked us into a triangular-shaped metal-sided "bunker" we referred to as the "lunar sleeper". The caballero allowed us to take over his kitchen in the morning to make a huge brkfst accompanied by gourmet espresso (which he and his elderly mother also enjoyed). The 2 t-bars had closed a week before, and with a late start we enjoyed the summit in the early evening on a windless blue-bird day, followed by an epic ski back down. Unforgettable.
