Warren Smith Ski Academy Offers Summer Courses on Swiss Snow

The Warren Smith Ski Academy is going ahead with its summer 2020 program based in the Italian Alpine resort of Cervinia, with skiing taking place high up on the Matterhorn glacier, accessed from Italy but on the Swiss side of the border.

The courses take place on the summer ski area high above the resort at almost 3,900 meters and run for five 5 days during the week, from 08.30am until 2pm. The focus is on developing pupil’s skills and confidence to improve their skiing to help with carving, steeps, short radius turns, personal development, moguls and even the foundation for powder snow conditions.

“The snow is in really great shape right now and we’re really looking forward to welcoming people to the Italian and Swiss Alps this summer. We went over there from our Verbier base last week to check out the conditions and they were perfect, plus the resort is operating as normal with new Covid-19 regulations in place to ensure skiers safety. This is a great opportunity to get out on the snow this summer, especially for anyone that missed out on the end of last season,” said Warren.

The courses include in-depth video analysis and ski biomechanics assessments that are looked at during the evenings before dinner. The teaching focuses on all of the Warren Smith Ski Academy content including, ankle flex, skier symmetry, thigh steering, left and right differences and physiology, middle body strength and pole plant plus a wide range of further content that might be needed on an individual skier basis.

Although complete beginners cannot participate, group levels start at ‘Basic’ (basic parallel turns required) to Intermediate and advanced skiers, through to experts and athlete level skiers. Group sizes are a maximum of eight people.

“Warren’s coaching method is something I really responded to. It was tough but really effective, a bit like a boot camp, but an enjoyable one. I’ve had so much coaching throughout my rugby career that when I met Warren I quickly realised I had struck gold, his philosophy and teaching methods are different gravy,” commented past participant, former England Rugby Captain, Lawrence Dallaglio.

The 5 day Warren Smith Ski Academy 2020 Summer Courses start on Sunday July 26, August 2, August 9 and August 16. Travel on all courses is Saturday to Saturday – arrival is a day before the courses start. Switzerland is on the list of countries the UK Government says travellers from England can return to without needing to take part in the otherwise required self-regulated 14 day quarantine period from 10th July on.

The course costs £359 and a lift pass for 6 days costs €192. Participants are recommended to travel Saturday to Saturday and accommodation can be booked on an individual basis in the 3* Hotel Mon Reve at a cost of €55 / night per person twin occupancy including breakfast.

Flights are booked independently and transfers are available from Geneva Airport (£160 return booked through WSSA), Turin Caselle, Milan Malpensa and Milan Linate.
