Stelvio Ready for 2025 Summer Ski Season

The Stelvio glacier near Bormio, which claims to be Europe’s largest summer ski area, is scheduled to reopen for its 2025 season on Saturday 31st May.
With a season planned to last until November 2nd, 2025, Stelvio’s slopes are set against the dramatic backdrop of the Stelvio National Park and the towering peaks of the Ortles-Cevedale range.
The area is ideal for both seasoned skiers and first-timers, with 20 kilometers of slopes catering to all skill levels. Modern lift systems—including cable cars and ski lifts—serve the terrain, which stretches from 2,758 meters at Stelvio Pass, whose iconic road celebrates its bicentennial this year, up to 3,450 meters on Mount Cristallo.
While advanced skiers will enjoy the technical challenges and vertical drop, beginners can receive expert instruction from Bormio’s highly qualified ski schools. The glacier also features dedicated routes for ski mountaineering enthusiasts.
As tradition goes, elite ski athletes from around the world will also be training on the Stelvio this summer. Nearly a year ago, Olympic champion Sofia Goggia made her comeback on these very slopes after a major knee injury—rekindling the sensations that led her back to victory this past season (pictured above credit: Enrico Pozzi).
Like her, numerous top-level and youth-category athletes are expected to return to Bormio, which is preparing to host events in Alpine Skiing and Ski Mountaineering for the upcoming Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.

The lift schedule is designed to optimize snow conditions and guest experience:
