Snowfall has been reported falling simultaneously on ski slopes in the northern and southern hemispheres.

Winter is just getting started in the southern hemisphere, with snowfall reported in Argentina at South America’s largest ski area by uplift, Cerro Catedral near Bariloche.  Snowfall is also incoming at Argentinian and New Zealand ski areas.

It’s high summer in the northern hemisphere and with three glacier ski areas closing at the weekend, including the only one still open in Asia, there are just half a dozen summer ski centres currently open in The Alps, North America and Scandinavia.

Just over a week ago record high June temperatures were reported in parts of the USA and Europe’s Alps.

However, the past 24 hours has seen up to 25cm (10”) of snowfall reported above 3,000m in the Alps with glacier ski areas including Austria’s Hintertux (pictured below) and Italy’s Passo Stelvio (pictured bottom) reported significant fresh snowfall.

There was also fresh snow pictured on currently closed slopes including Val d’Isere and Italy’s Sulden ski area (above).
