Park City & Jackson Hole Opening After Season Start Delay

America’s largest ski area, Utah’s Park City, and one of its most iconic, Jackson Hole, have announced they’ll be starting their 25-26 seasons over the next few days, after previously delaying planned season starts due to inadequate snow cover.
The news follows the arrival of more consistent cold temperatures and some fresh snowfall in the Western US after an often mild, mostly dry November.
Jackson Hole say they’ll start their 60th anniversary season today, Thursday, Dec. 4th with three lifts, Teewinot, Après Vous, and the Sweetwater Gondola up to the Mid-Station, running on opening day.
“The resort’s continuous snowmaking efforts, coupled with 65 inches of snowfall on the summit (165cm) and 34 inches (85cm) mid-mountain, have combined to give visitors coverage across much of the north side of the resort,” a statement says, adding, “JMHR will open a variety of terrain connected by three lifts on Opening Day. Using the three lifts, visitors will have the opportunity to access a collection of beginner and intermediate terrain. Early season conditions still exist, and all guests are advised to stay out of closed areas and look for hazards.”
For now, Colorado’s Wolf Creek continues to report the most terrain open in the US, with 80% of its terrain open already. For North America as a whole, Lake Louise has the most runs open so far.
Nine of the 15 areas posting the most terrain open in north America so far are actually in the North East with more ski areas in Vermont than Colorado after a snowier start in the East than the West.
