American ski racing living legend Lindsey Vonn has enlisted fellow alpine ski racing icon, Norway’s Aksel Lund Svindal, to join her team ahead of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.

The two former HEAD World Cup stars—who both retired in 2019 after that year’s Alpine Skiing World Championships in Åre, Sweden—will reunite at a training camp in Chile later this summer, marking the start of a planned collaboration built on years of shared experience, mutual respect, and technical expertise.

“Bringing Aksel onto my team feels like a natural and incredibly exciting step,” said Vonn, who returned to racing, aged 40, last season. “We’ve trained together, won titles together, and built a deep trust over the years. His insights into equipment and race strategy are second to none, and I believe he’ll give me the edge I need for this ambitious push toward Cortina.”

Vonn’s comeback gained momentum in her final race of last season with a dramatic second-place finish in the Super-G at Sun Valley—her first podium in over seven years and the 138th of her career. The 40-year-old last stood on a World Cup podium in March 2018, and her return has reignited interest across the ski racing world.

Svindal, who won four Olympic medals and five World Championship titles during his career, has remained closely connected to the sport through his work with HEAD, including contributions to ski technology like the Energy Management Circuit (EMC). His technical acumen and longstanding relationship with Vonn made the partnership a natural fit but he said it was a surprise but an honour to be asked to support her revived racing career.

“The right setup of skis, boots, and bindings is crucial for confidence and speed,” Svindal said. “Lindsey and I built a lot of trust through years of racing together, and I felt I could make an impact quickly. I was honored when she called. Her determination is impressive, and I’m excited to see what’s possible in the months ahead.”

The duo’s shared history with HEAD—both as racers and collaborators—adds another layer to the partnership. Vonn has long competed on men’s skis, often training with Svindal and the Norwegian team, and has regularly sought his advice on equipment and tactics. In her 2024/25 comeback season, Svindal was already offering remote support.
