Australia’s largest resort reports that their new Mt Perisher 6 Chairlift (the 'Mt P 6') is ready for skiers and riders to access the country’s new highest lifted served point and that it will spin for the first time this Friday 27 June.
The brand new $26M (AUD) investment in the new lift should mean shorter wait times (almost halving the trip to the top when compared with the previous Mt Perisher Triple and Double Chairlifts), more choice of runs and a wider ride down Mt Perisher thanks to the removal of 17 lift towers during construction.
“The Mt Perisher 6 has been 18-months in the making and a decade in the planning,” says Nathan Butterworth, Perisher’s Vice President & General Manager. “It’s been a huge achievement by our team to deliver this incredible piece of infrastructure in partnership with Doppelmayr Australia, the absolute experts in their field.”
Guests will be able to access the newly named ‘Legends’ run, which was previously Towers Run. The new name is a tribute to the individuals who have significantly contributed to the resort's history. This "Hall of Fame" trail will be updated with new inductees over time, recognising their efforts and dedication to Perisher.
The opening comes 48 hours after Perisher reported another 35cm of fresh snow arriving on Wednesday morning as a wild and wintry front turned the resort into a winter wonderland. Thanks to freezing temperatures overnight (-2.3C lowest), the resort’s snowmakers were busy helping Mother Nature along with 87 snow guns operating across the resort. There’s more snow on the way.
