Canada's famed Lake Louise Ski Resort has begun unveiling the names of five new runs in its Richardson Ridge expansion, a major project set to transform the resort’s terrain offering.
The expansion, located adjacent to the resort’s legendary Back Bowls, will open up 200 acres of fresh skiable terrain. Designed to appeal to all ability levels, the area will feature groomed pistes, mellow gladed tree skiing, and more technical chutes.
At the heart of the project is the Richardson’s Ridge Express, a detachable high-speed quad chairlift that will whisk skiers and riders up to the new terrain. The lift’s base terminal will sit near the junction of Pika and Corral Creeks, while the upper terminal will rise close to the treeline on Richardson’s Ridge.
The first two run names revealed are Merlin and Redoubt.
Merlin The longest of the new runs, inspired by Lake Merlin, a hidden alpine treasure.
Redoubt: Named after Mount Redoubt, the striking 2,902-metre peak that looms over the new terrain.
“These names aren’t just labels on a trail map,” said resort representatives. “They’re tributes to the landscapes and stories that make Lake Louise such an iconic destination.”
The remaining three run names will be announced later this week, with the resort teasing skiers with a poetic clue:
“Hidden past peaks where the wild winds blow, a cozy old lodge in the backcountry snow.”
The Richardson Ridge project is part of Lake Louise’s long-range plan, which has already delivered major upgrades in recent years, including the West Bowl expansion and the Pipestone Express heated bubble lift. Together, these investments underscore the resort’s commitment to enhancing the guest experience and cementing its reputation as one of North America’s premier ski destinations.
Locals and visitors are now being encouraged to share their guesses for the next run name reveal on social media, using the hashtag #SkiLouise.
