Outdoor workers can save 50% on lift tickets in August at America's lone indoor ski centre.

With temperatures regularly getting into the 90s Fahrenheit in recent weeks, North America’s only indoor snow ski centre in New Jersey’s vast American Dream mall, is offering outdoor workers  a cool discount

The indoor ski and snow resort is extending a 50% discount on lift tickets throughout August to outdoor workers who present proof of employment.

The initiative, dubbed “Cool Down Days,” is aimed at delivery drivers, construction crews, landscapers, utility teams, and public service workers—groups that often endure sweltering conditions while others retreat to air-conditioned spaces.

“Despite the heat advisories and unbearable conditions, outdoor workers show up every day to get the job done,” said Amiana Tyransky, Big Snow’s Resort Marketing Manager. “Cool Down Days are our way of recognizing their efforts by offering them a chance to hit the slopes and chill out in a refreshing 28-degree escape that lasts all year long no matter what the forecast says.”

Big Snow is one of the world’s larger indoor ski areas with 180,000-square-feet of snowfall and  16-storeys worth of vertical descent.

Standard pricing includes $59.99 for two-hour slope access and $99.99 for a Snow Day package, which bundles rental equipment, access to skills areas, and instruction. With the August discount, eligible workers can enjoy the slopes at half that price.

It’s believed that there are currently more indoor snow centres open than outdoors worldwide. The number of indoor snow centres built over the past three decades has now reached 200 across more than 40 countries and six continents. Some have since closed or only offer “snow fun experiences”  but more than 100 offering indoor skiing and boarding are currently open, a little more than half of them in China.  That’s thought to exceed the total number of traditional outdoor centres currently open in the southern hemisphere and the half-dozen mostly glacier-based outdoor centres in the northern hemisphere combined.

Only one outdoor ski area offering lift-served skiing is currently operational in North America, and due to end its season shortly. After that, Big snow will be the only lift-served ski area open on the continent until the 2025-26 ski season begins.
