The International Ski Federation (FIS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bonski, China’s largest developer of indoor ski facilities, in an initiative to expand snow sports participation across the country.

The collaboration aims to inspire a new generation of Chinese skiers and snowboarders, with a target of reaching one million children through structured programmes, family engagement, and inclusive pathways into winter sports.

China has seen a huge growth in interest in snowsports through the first decades of the 21st century, with more than 700 ski areas opening. They include now more than 60 indoor snow centres which between them attract around a fifth of all Chinese skiers and boarders.

Bonski is the largest indoor snow centre operator, running centres that include several of the world’s largest. Eleven of their venues will take part in FIS World Snow Week promotional activities, offering children regular opportunities to experience snow sports regardless of season. It has three additional venues set to open soon

Bonski’s Vice President Yi Li emphasised the shared goal of “delivering the joy of snow sports to Chinese children and families,” while FIS Director for Development Dimitrije Lazarovski highlighted the unique infrastructure that will allow snow sports to prosper in mainland China.

The partnership will also see Bonski’s centres host competitions, including the first-ever Indoor Asian Ski Championships scheduled for next spring.
