The final ski areas still operating in Australia have ended their 2025 seasons today with some of the stats the best “in at least 20 years”.

Despite pre-season predictions of a warmer season than usual with the consequences expected to be low snow cover levels, things started very well with a 70-80cm snowstorm over the King’s Birthday Weekend in early June, Australia’s traditional season start date. That set the tone for winter with Australian resorts posting better snow totals than many ski areas in the Andes and New Zealand.

Hotham reported 121 operating days, 398cm (160”) of snowfall and its base peaking at 165cm (5.5 feet). Among its stats it posted the highest number of days with Heavenly Valley and Village Chairs spinning in at least 20 years.

“We’ve cherished every turn, every powder day, and every shared smile that made 2025 so special,” said Emily Smith, Hotham’s Field Marketing Manager. “Thanks to all our guests for being part of our mountain family and creating the magic with us - can’t wait to welcome everyone back in 2026 to do it all over again.”

It was a similar story for other resorts, including Falls Creek.

“This season saw a total of 368cm of natural snowfall, consistently delivered across the winter, creating some of the best conditions we’ve seen in years,” said Betony Pitcher, Falls Creek’s Field Marketing Manager. “A huge thank you to all our guests, staff and community who made Falls Creek so special this winter and we can’t wait to welcome you back to create more memories in 2026.”
