The Summit at Snoqualmie is a great place for the family to ski. Yes, it can rain here, but if you found this site, you know the weather before you go. Summit West is mostly a beginner to intermediate hill and yes, people are learning to ski here. Yes, people sometimes miss a chair fumbling to get on, just you used to do. There is some good steep terrain on Big Thunder. Summit Central has a legit terrain park, some terrific steeps off 360 Chair, and some mellow areas for the kids and beginners.
Not finding challenging terrain, go try Alpental. While not the biggest area, there is some extremely challenging terrain off chair 2.
Yes, sometimes the powder is more moist than in Utah, but that is why K2 invented wide skis, get yourself some mid-fat or full fat skis and tear it up.
Snoqualmie is nowhere close to being a good resort. I went there and I was surprised how small it was and how crappy the snow was. There was a bunch of little kids who tripped in the ski line and slowed the process down. Stevens Pass is a real resort where the pow goes down. I love Stevens, not some daycare center like Snoqualmie. Only good thing about Snoqualmie is the terrain park, night skiing, accessibility, and the hot blondes who help load you onto your seat. I mean they have like breasts the size of melons. I caught up with them for some night skiing (if you know what I mean).
The Summit at Snoqualmie is affectionately called Snocrapy, as the low pass brings rain often and the snow conditions are average at best.
The best things going for it are it's only an hour from Seattle, and almost always accessible as it is on a state highway and is plowed all the time (WADOT really does a great job).
I wish they would just keep all the beginners on one of the three areas as the flood of little children all getting on and off the lifts during the weekend is horrible. They all go at the same time regardless of where they are in line and miss chairs because they really aren't even ready for lifts yet, and when they get to the slopes are unaware and dangerous.
If you don't mind skiing/boarding in a zoo of 5 year olds, I'm sure the terrain at The Summit at Snoqualmie won't bother you.
Snoqualmie has an okay terrain park at Central but overall the quality of snow varies and sometimes its referred to as rainqualmie due to the large amount of rain that it recieves, except on good years were the temps are a little cooler. The terrain is limited crystal is about 4 times as big but for being 45 mins away from seattle with night skiing available till 10 its worth considering.
