Taos, where skiing is still a sport, not a service. Bring your testosterone. There is no better advanced skiing on the planet, period. The intermediate stuff is pretty darn good too. Small by mega area standards, the variety is matched no where...every run has a different feel. This isn't a place to hang, see, or be seen...Mtn men and women only need apply. For you easterners, think Mad River Glenn/Stowe with real snow..For you Euros, think St Anton in the trees. The bonus is the ambience of northern NM. 1 hr north of Sante Fe...it makes for a great vacation. If you're a decent intermediate, you'll have a great time too. This is the antithesis of Vail and Aspen (attitude). My memories here run deep...if you're a skier, don't miss this place.

Taos is a fantastic mountain for intermediate to expert skiers. Double blacks will want to hike the ridge when it's open. They do have a good ski school, but in my experience it isn't really a beginners mountain. The green trails are normally narrow traverses that tend to rattle beginners because there is little room to maneuvre & the more advanced skiers are typically flying by all around them. The town of Taos is small & quiet. The food is great but not Mexican per se. Be ready for New Mexican food, covered in red or green chile sauce. Get a red chile breakfast burrito somewhere before you head out, there's no better breakfast for a day of skiing!

A perfect time capsule offering a glimpse of European architectural charm and culture and yet without the appalling hillside manners so often experienced in Euro resorts. The skiing is second to none and the queues non existent compared to other resorts claiming comparable skiing quality. Snowboarders just got their first full season but the long term plan appears to be to give them their own mountain in the longer term as the needs and demands of both sets are different. I've skied here on and off since 1983...and it is still one of my favourites.

Taos has gone the way of most ski resorts and now allows SNOWBOARDING. They have realized (like all but 3 resorts now) that the majority of future spenders are snowboarders. I enjoyed skiing Taos many years ago and can't wait to snowboard there as well !!

HA! Skiers only.. sounds great fun. No snowboarders and that's why everyone went to whistler. Ma bro is a skier and even he hates there being no snowboarders..... STAY AWAY FROM TAOS unless you're a poacher hehehe

Best ski resort around. If you like sunshine dry snow high altitude, steep and deep. THIS IS IT. Than the food..real Mexican fare at its best! Im not talking texmex. Best of all...they do NOT ALLOW SNOWBOARDERS AT TAOS AND NEVER WILL. So if you skier this is as good as it gets. Low speed lifts are a blessing here. You would be crippled to crank in 30,000 vertical here. For more info check out my site www.shot2focus.com I recommend TAOS to real skiers who want to leave the fashion show at home along with your platinum card. Whistler is the exact opposite and in my opinion can't touch this place. Enough said just go there.
