Counting down the days to our 8th year out of 10 in Seefeld. Always the Kaltscmidt, always early Jan! Children learn't to ski here and we are drive down from WALES!! Take one day out to go somewhere else, schloss neuswanstein(chitty chitty bang bang), Italy for pizza or the Zugspitz for more adventurous skiing. Cannot rate it highly enough for a family friendly holiday!

We have been to Seefeld now 8 times, the last time being 2 weeks ago. It is a magical place not only for the skiers but also for the walkers as they clear various paths over a selection of distances for you to walk. It is fabulous walking through the woods with all the snow. We have also been to Seefeld in the summer and spring and it still has the same magic.

Seefeld is the best. We have just come back from our first skiing trip to Seefeld and Austria. The information on this site proved invaluable. We stayed at the Ferienhotel Kaltschmid; very central for ski hire shop, ski bus and village centre. The hotel lived up to expectations. The breakfasts and evening meals were wonderful, great flavours, interesting menus and so much food no skier could possibly walk away hungry. All the staff were so friendly and professional and the steam and sauna rooms were a fantastic muscle relaxant at the end of a day's skiing. Many of the people staying there were repeat visitors.
The real star of the holiday was our instructor Ziggy.P (there are three instructors at Seefeld SchiSchule called Ziggy); he made our holiday. From me, a higher beginner, to my husband and the rest of the group who are intermediates, he got us to ski safely and fast. My parallel skiing still needs much more practice, but anyone who can get me down a black run and enjoy it gets my vote every time. He just made the whole experience such fun and when I had trouble with my boot fittings he came to the ski hire place and spent 30-40 minutes getting me fitted for the right boots. How good is that?
After last years disasterous instruction in Lavigno, Ziggy.P was a godsend as were all the lovely wide, nearly snowboarder free runs. Can't wait to go back to Seefeld.
Seefeld is brilliant for beginners of all ages and has superb instructors. We are about to pay our 5th visit in 6 years and would have made it 6 out of 6 but for other family plans. We can also recommend the small family run Hotel Haymon in the town centre at the southern end of the pedestrian only area.
We were total beginners when we visited Seefeld for the first time, The ski school is great and my son just loves it (6 now), he only ever has about eight in his class and the teacher speaks English well; nothing is too much trouble. We are going back this year for the third year and taking my daughter who is only four. We stay in the Alpine Park where the indoor and outdoor pools are great after a full days skiing, the staff are friendly and the food is great.
We have been skiing in Seefeld for about seven years. Some years we have gone a second time because we enjoy it so much. We usually drive from Bedford. It is about 750 miles and takes us 13 hours including the Eurotunnel. Driving through the night is a good option if you can share the driving and stay awake but you don't see many other cars. I agree with all the other reviews in that Seefeld is a magical winter wonderland and has all the typical Austrian charm.
We decided to see what Seefeld was like in the summer this year. We were completely blown away with it's beauty and the general summer atmosphere to such an extent that we have taken a long term rent on a property with a view to buying.
We just love it.
Seefeld is an absolutely fantastic resort! I've been going there with the family now for 4 years. We stay at the hotel Kaltschmid (which is right in the centre) which has a lovely Austrian atmosphere and homely feeling with the wood fire by the reception; the staff are very friendly and polite. They have many rooms to choose from and I would recommend one with a balcony.
Seefeld has an excellent spa facility with 3 traditional steam rooms and 2 huge saunas, a real highlight is the panorama pool, which has one of the sides as glass so you can overlook the village while swimming, also the open air rooftop jacuzzi which, when it's snowing, is an experience in itself. The food is great and the restaurants in town are superb, especially the Italian one.
We're going for new years for the second time and the experience is amazing, especially as everyone brings their own fireworks to the square and just lets them off. There's a real party atmosphere. The town has a real fairytale look with beautiful Austrian buildings and chalets, which look even better after a fresh dump of snow.
There are many small little 'alms' dotted around the town which sell Gluvine which is a delicious type of mulled wine which everyone enjoys. Take a trip to Eedits in the centre of town and have a drink with the locals while watching the snow fall in a traditional wooden hutte.
The village of Seefeld has a lovely Austrian feel to it and the skiing and all 'round experience is not one to be missed. The resort doesn't only offer downhill skiing there's ice skating and some of the best cross-country skiing in the Alps. For anyone who has never been skiing and wants to try it I would highly recommend Seefeld. The nursery slopes are in the centre of town and the bus trip to the Rosshutte (where there are many restaurants and alms) has a restaurant at the top where you can sit outside on a huge balcony and eat or sunbathe even in winter whilst enjoying the spectacular views. This is only 10 minutes from the bus station which is right at the bottom of the nursery slopes. You could walk to the Gschwandkopf hill if you wanted but there's a bus every 30 minutes (inc Rosshutte) so there's really no need. The skiing is limited for the advanced at Seefeld but for intermediates or beginners there's plenty. If you're a beginner the ski school is world renowned as being one of the best. There's loads of ski rental shops in the town so shop around to get the cheapest deal, the one at the bottom of the nursery slopes has lockers to keep your skis in instead of having to lug them back to the hotel. I've been to Bulgaria recently which was a huge let down. Nearby Niederau-Wildschonau was very pretty but the low altitude sometimes means unreliable snow. Oberau has the same problem, similar to Neiderau.

Going to Seefeld for a second time and already booked for 2008. The hotel Alpina is fantastic, the food is a joy, all top quality. Situated close to the nursery slopes and a couple of minutes walk from town. The staff are fantastic, nothing is too much for them. I don't ski so we chose it for the cleared winter walks. Use the train to get out and walk back.
I went to seelfeld for the new year last year and stayed in hotel Kalssmit. It was wonderful but the food let it down a bit. Force fed duck !!!! But apart from that I loved it and went skiing everyday. It was one of the best times of my life. It is the 2nd best ski resort I have visited. The best I have been to was Zermatt in Switzerland. Everywere you went to you could see the marvelous Matterhorn and the food was magnificent and so was the skiing. There were no pertol cars there, only cars running on electricty, so that ment the air was fresh. I also met a celebrity there!! Thanks, I'm 15 by the way.
We have just returned from a great week in Seefeld. Having stayed in the autumn, relaxing and walking, we decided we wanted to see it in the snow, and lots of snow we had. We stayed at the beautiful Hotel Seelos overlooking the village where the service was once again excellent. Lots to do, cross-country sking and snow walking instruction as well as curling. Would recommend Seefeld and the Hotel Seelos to anyone at any time of the year.
