Mount Cain is a diamond in the rough. Great place to spend some time with your family. On occasion the place is blessed with some awesome ski conditions - in and out of bounds. It is run by a dedicated core of volunteers who are loosely called the 'dirty dozen'. These are real people who will call a spade a spade when it comes to dealing with the odd 'Darwin Award' candidate that shows up. Things like not having chains that fit your car, letting your dog run around in the parking lot, trying to scam onto the lifts, being in the back-country without proper gear, non-complying skidoo operating, drunk and disorderly behavior. Basic rules of the road for being a positive member of society apply in this neck of the woods (Mount Cain).
Mount Cain terrain rules. The last three years have been dark for Mount Cain with respect at an all time low. It's going to be hard to sell season passes at Mount Cain in the coming years; most folks are choked at the managements attitude. They see problems not symptoms that can be remedied. God bless those that work hard for the right reasons to make Mount Cain such a special place.
Mount Cain's backcountry terrain is awesome, but the 'inbounds' does lack vertical. The best runs have about 500ft of vertical.
The directors are voluteers that put as much time and effort into running the hill as most of us put into our jobs, and all they get in return is the satisfaction of keeping the hill available for the rest of us.
The one thing most people at Mount Cain do not appreciate or tolerate are snowmobiles.
The only time I've ever seen any of the volunteers at Mount Cain get worked up about anything is when people try to ride the mountain without paying the cost of a pass. It can not be easy to keep a ski hill running on volunteer labour.
Awesome backcountry pow at Mount Cain. However, their in-bounds riding is compromised and they only have 2 T-bars as there is no hydro service. I have also found some of the directors to be very harsh, rude, unreasonable and unprofessional when speaking to or more like yelling at paying customers. They come across with a big resort attitude and were quite threatening - totally unfitting for a place such as Mount Cain. We are all there just to shred pow and have fun. Don't let them ruin what could be a great day shreddin' back country at Mount Cain.
MountCain is the home of the best pow on the island. But there are a few bad apples in the managment. If you steer clear of a few key players, youll be a-ok at MountCain.
