On February 22nd I bought a ski pass for 63 Euros, the facilities were closed due to the wind and on 26th February 2024 they offered me a voucher of 27 Euros valid until the end of the season 2023/2024, so maybe 1-2 weeks. The biggest thieves.
Never again, not in a thousand years!
There are plenty accommodations in the area and getting to the slopes by bus or car is rather easy. However, that's pretty much where the good stuff about Jasna stops :(
On a windy Monday we waited for 80 minutes in line to embark in the first gondola. What we quickly noticed during the day is that there are not many performance skiers in Jasna, nor do folks excel in snowboarding, but jumping the queue and shouldering your way to skip the line is national sport. I have been in SLO 20 years ago and noticed the same, I thought by 2024 people around here would get more civilized, but no way. You need to be strong on your feet if you want to advance the huge queues that the ski lifts here feature. I do not even want to think how a week-end queue looks like.
Skiing conditions were survival-like, but that is due to high wind and exposed slopes.
As Slovak is not currently supported, review translated into English:
We have always loved Jasná and we have come here several times as a family.
But what happened today, January 5, 2021, forces me to reconsider my position on this ski resort.
Rudeness and indifference are on the verge of being in danger.
Today we arrived at Jasný with three adults and 6 children. We skated, everything was fine. We came and parked on Krupová, that's the northern slope. On the elevator we moved through Hopok and drove all day on the south slope. At 15-15, they began to return. At 15-30 we were at the top of the hill. Before the descent began and we wanted to go downhill and snowboarding, we got a little confused because we couldn't find the exit we needed. At that time, we did not find a single employee of the department from whom we could request a trip. We figured it out ourselves. We started the descent on the blue highway. It was still light, but it was getting dark. During the descent there was a strong wind with gusts, which carried snow, sometimes it was very difficult to see .. It all slowed down our movement and the darkness began to cover us. We continued to move forward through the darkness. The tracks were moving away from us, processing the track. They saw a group of people in the dark, apparently not in time to descend, with the children. None of them stopped and asked if we were okay. We slowly got to some intermediate station from which the stalls fell. We were excited, believing that we would get to Krupova now, but it was not where the station was closed outside and we could not get to it on the street, we met a man who was wrong with an employee who was asked how we could go to Krupova on the cable car. The children were already crying at the time, someone was frozen and in general it was not very good, because the darkness finally covered us. The person we were dealing with pointed hand down and said they said I had to go in that direction. There was nothing to do, we went down by touch and roughly understood the direction. At the meeting, they met again with straps that passed us indifferently. We got to the next point, where there was a trailer with workers, there were snowmobiles on the trailer. We turned to these workers and said where we had to go, and we asked for directions. I also told them that we had children, they were frozen, they were afraid, I asked them to take them on snowmobiles. I sincerely believed that as employees they should help us somehow. In response, there was rejection and absolute indifference. These people sat in their trailer, ate some food and watched television lazily. The maximum they did was wave their hand, pointing in the direction of us. We had to move on our own, a ntrak came to us, which climbed the mountain with a cable that was not visible in the dark and almost crashed into it as it moved forward on the snowboard. Then we left the highway and somehow got to Krupova.
So we came down around 17-20. Everything was closed on Krupová. I wanted to ask if there was any help or rescue service for people stranded in the mountains at this resort. It is strange that I only thought about it at that moment, but on the other hand, a ski resort of this level with a ticket of EUR 57 per adult per day seemed to take natural care of the safety of visitors. Everything was closed again, there are no telephones on the information stands. I thought I would figure it out later. They loaded into the car, walking to the exit barrier. The facility ate a parking ticket, but the barrier did not open. Another problem. He approached the trailer at the barrier, so there was no one, even though an employee was sitting there in the morning. As we were leaving the parking lot and there was another car, a car was passing us, across the second exit. My wife and I were going to the station when we saw an employee. They came and explained the situation. To our surprise, the employee said it wasn't his problem and sent us ...
Posted literally. After we started asking for a phone number where we could call or even suggest some way out, he told us "whores" and continued on.
Overwhelmed by such treatment and barely limited, I called the police, the policeman asked me to hand over the phone to the employee who first refused to take it, but then, at my urgent request, took it. After talking to the police, the employee said that he would open the exit for us in ten to fifteen minutes. And so it turned out that he came and gave us a barrier with his card. What it was and why I didn't understand this employee.
Short exit: the ticket is not small, the service and customer care are poor. It is not clear how they work and whether there are any rescue services in the mountains at all. Employees show indifference and rudeness. Next time we'll go to another place. In addition, I will ask for official explanations from Jasna about our situation. Depending on the answer I receive, I will decide what to do next.
First time my family was in Slovakia = Jasna in 2005. My first time to ski & relax. My family have been in Jasna, Demanowska Dolina (JASNÁ Nízke Tatry) around 12 times (even Slovakia gave us, the whole family, the Schengen visas for 5 years in 2013). We all love this place. It is a lot of fun and comfortable. However, this year (2018) an unpleasant situation happened with our family. We bought the ski-passes through GOPASS system for 3 people (it was middle of February 2018). Unfortunately, on the first day my daughter fell (when skiing downhill) and injured her arm. We had the sport-insurance and received support and medical assistance/help in time. But, for sure, she could not ski anymore. Next day, in the morning, I got the terrible headache when skiing downhill. It was unexpectedly and I have not had such experience before. I had to go back a hotel and take the rest (just go to bad and sleep). At the next day, the same incident was happened – or even worse (with nausea and vomiting). I was taken to the hospital from the mountain. So, my daughter and I could not ski. I was really sick and my daughter was injured. We both had medical report, etc. 4 days of skiing were paid, but could not be used. We decided to contact to GOPASS with a request to return money for those 4 days (it could be some amount of points in GOPASS Loyalty program). We also proposed several option to solve this question (without money transfer): to move these 4 days for the next season for same people (my daughter and me) or to visit Tetralandia Aquapark (GOPASS has such option in their program; it is even cheaper than to ski). But we got the answer that they can do only one thing: to give these 4 days 'til the end of season 2018 ('til the end of March 2018!). We were trying to explain them that there is no sense. We could not ski on physical abilities (till the end of March) and we could not come again to Jasna.
It is increasable GOPAS service and focus on client! It is a pity that such bad service in GOPASS.
By the way, we were in Austria, Mayrhofen, the same story have been. My daughter broken her arm at the first day. After hospital we came to ticket desk and ask “What should we do in such situation? It is the ski-pass (5 days left)”. The usual cashier said “No problem! She reviewed medical report and returned money back in 2 min”. And in the ski-rent point we got money back.
I do not know – will my family come again to Jasna (JASNÁ Nízke Tatry), will we recommend Jasna?
Great conditions for this time of year and whilst there is still plenty of terrain yet to open up, the piste and south side off-piste was in good condition. I was skiing on 31 Dec, some two days after the latest fresh falls, but the snow was still light and dry. Packed powder off-piste on the south, giving a good work out, whilst the north face piste was great for edging for short turns or big carving. Late in the day, once much of the snow had been pushed around, it got a bit icy underneath in some places but wasn't that bad you couldn't hold an edge. The sun was out all day and no wind, so was very comfortable and enjoyable day. All bar one of the main lifts were running, so was plenty of access to the mountain. A very enjoyable day.

Bratislava. We had a hire car awaiting us at the airpot. Journey to Liptovsky Mikulas was nearly 3 hours. Stayed at 3 star Hotel Klar in Mikulas. It was cheap and clean. Hotel was situated in centre of town. Lots of places to eat, would recommend to have Halusky with sheep cheese! Yummy, although my wife preferred meat feast Horehonsky resen. It is 30 min drive to resort and after a few runs we had decided to use the bus shuttle service. I guess it worked out cheaper than a car. Service was reliable and on time. Info was provided at hotel we stayed in. I would reccomend to look at sites such as mikulas.sk and jasna.sk both in English.
Snow conditions were near perfect with loads of snow and all pistes were taken care of. There is also a new cable car Funitell which was one of the reasons we chose this resort. There is plenty of things to do after you have spent your day on skis. I would recommend Tatralandia, in Mikulas, and Besenova spa resort. Outside hot spring is just fabulous. We have been told to go see mountain range High Tatras, but did not have enough time. Maybe next time. Oh, almost forgot to mention, when we woke up late there is local ski slope about 2min. from town - Opalisko, for those who had few drinks with locals night before :-)
Overall, we had great fun, lots of skiing. We are already making plans to go next season! Many thanks, Martin and Charlotte.
Pretty shitty up there!
Prices too high!
Walk paths iced not topped with sand or salt.
3 o'clock you won't get on tram from Biel to Funitel with no reason!
Too much Police around trying to catch you on speed camera.
Food so so!
Bus stops with no timetables (skibus).
Bus driver when he sees ski/snow boarders says skibus is just right behind me which is lie of course. He just do not want to clean his bus after.
This is my point of view!
My family and I had a great week in Jasna in March 2011. We stayed in a catered chalet directly opposite the Zahradky chairlift run by Ski and Snowboard Slovakia (skiandsnowboardslovakia.com) independent chalet holiday company run by an English couple who have 3 chalets in Jasna. The snow was not amazing for our stay but I think it was the same for everywhere in Europe this year but the chalet and the service was excellent. I would highly recommend Jasna resort as it is a little hidden gem with really modern facilities and for the price it is hard to beat.
We visited Jasná - Chopok for Feb half-term. Our third trip and it was superb. This year there were minimal lift queues but last year they were disastrous with endless waiting around. You need to try to figure out whether it is either Slovak or Polish school holidays at Jasná - Chopok and if it is, think about going somewhere else. This year there were few other kids and it was fine.
This year saw the best snow I have had anywhere - even if the snow is poor, as it was last year, there are plenty of blowers and a reasonable coverage.
It's a good family destination because lessons are reasonably priced. There is a good mix of blues, reds and blacks, although a couple of the blues are quite challenging. We always take our kids to one of the aquaparks - Besenova or Tatralandia half way through the week for a break - amazing hot thermal springs and great fun. We stay in Liptovsky Mikulas - the nearest large town to Jasná - Chopok. There is a mix of accomodation and you can catch the service bus up (takes about 30 min and costs £3 for 4) or drive. Lots of nice places to eat - the resorts itself can be like a ghost town after 5pm.
I have just returned with my family from an absolutely fabulous holiday in Jasna (Jasná - Chopok). We stayed in one of the houses right next to the Zahradky 6 man chair lift from 16th - 23rd February 09, booked through [email protected] (Anna was very helpful and speaks good English).
The ski resort benefits from extensive pistes (34km) on the north side of Chopok mountain with 11km of pistes on the southern side. Whilst we were at Jasna (Jasná - Chopok) the snow conditions were powder on all pistes and the off-piste skiing was extensive & superb. With the fall in the value of the £, the ski passes were quite expensive, but the pistes were very well maintained, so I guess it was worth it.
The main benefit for us of staying in the resort was immediate access to the 'modern' ski lifts, but at night the entertainment was limited. There are no food shops and only hotel restaurants in the resort. But there are plenty of shops in the nearby town (about a 20 minute taxi ride away). Most people appear to come to the resort in the morning by car/bus; there is a regular bus service from the town that picks up skiers along the route.
All in all, I thoroughly recommend Jasna (Jasná - Chopok) - better than the 6 other resorts we have tried and before you ask, that does include 3 "posh" resorts in the Alps.
Give Jasna a try - you won't be disappointed.
