Ski Serbia

There are about 20 Serbia ski resorts but by far the largest and best known is Kopaonik located high in the Dinarske mountains around 200km/4 hours from the capital Belgrade.

Kopaonik is one of the most modern and efficiently designed ski areas in Eastern Europe and a recent influx of investment following the end of the Balkan wars has seen money spent on fast new lifts (three quad chairlifts) and other resort infrastructure.

Before the Balkan Wars, then Yugoslavia, and for a period afterwards, it was popular for Western European skiers. Particularly from Ireland and the UK, to ski Serbia at Kopaonik, but the leading tour operator (Tui, Crystal/Thomson) pulled out several years ago and a growing percentage of skiers at the resort now are from the region and from Russia.

Along with a reputation for high value, Kopaonik has a remarkable good snow record considering its southerly latitude and a less surprising good sunshine record. Pistes there include an FIS approved 'super G' or downhill, giant slalom ('Duboka') and a slalom ('Gobelja') course. There’s plenty of slope-side accommodation and a free ski bus linking base stations. There is also floodlighting for night skiing and snowboarding.
