Late Summer Snowfall in the Rockies

Late Summer Snowfall in the Rockies

There have been snowfalls this week on high slopes in the Alberta Rockies in Canada and in Utah, USA.

It’s still summertime for another fortnight by the astronomical measure of the seasons, but we’re a week into autumn/fall by the meteorological.

Utah’s Alta, Snowbird and Solitude were among ski areas posting images of fresh snow, including this one of one of the first snowmen of 23-24 at Alta.

It was less than four months since the last Utah snowfalls of 22-23, a record-breaking season which saw several resorts including Alta post more than 900″ (over 22 metres) of cumulative snowfall. The first ski area expected to open for the 23-24 season in the state is Brian Head in two months’ time. Snowbird posted the image below.

The latest snow was reported by ski areas around Banff in Alberta, Canada, with Sunshine posting images of its higher runs turned white and Lake Louise the image, top, on Wednesday.

Canada’s 23-24 ski season is scheduled to kick off first at Banff in two months’ time.
