SNOW NEWS UPDATED 19 MAY 2008


INTRODUCTION Spring conditions can be found across Europe this week but dusting of snow are expected which will refresh the pistes.


AUSTRIA The Stubai glacier (250cm) received a dusting of snow on Monday morning and more is expected throughout the week. The 44km of open pistes are in good condition and the snow expected this week will improve the riding on offer.Snow is also expected all week at the glacier at Hintertux (335cm). It is expected to start snowing on Monday afternoon and improvements will then be seen on the open 61km. The conditions on Monday are spring like, packed pistes in the morning becoming soft by lunchtime.The Dachstein glacier (640cm) is scheduled to open on Tuesday 20th May for summer skiing. Changeable weather is expected throughout the week with rain forecast for Tuesday.


FRANCE Tignes is now closed in preparation for the summer ski season which is scheduled to commence on 21st June. Val d'Isere is now closed for the winter season but the summer ski season is scheduled to start on 28th June 2008.Les Deux Alpes is scheduled to open for summer snowsports on 14th June.


SWITZERLAND Spring riding conditions are dominating at Zermatt. The Gandegg blue run and Furgstallel red run are open along with the Zermatt-Furi and Zermatt-Trockener Steg cable cars, the Furggsattel Gletscherbahn chair lift and the Gandegg drag lift. It is sunny on Monday morning but clouds are expected in the afternoon, and rain is possible. Changeable weather is forecast all week and the temperature is forecast to drop midweek so some snow could fall.Saas Fee is now closed for the winter season. They are hoping to open for the summer ski season in the middle of June.


ITALY It is forecast to be a cloudy snowy week at the Presena glacier (295cm). The largest snowfall is expected on Tuesday when 15cm are forecast. There are currently three pistes open on the glacier.Val Senales is now closed for the winter season but the lifts are scheduled to open again on 14th June for summer skiing.Cervinia is scheduled to open for summer snowsports until 5th July.


NORTH AMERICA The Blackcomb glacier (195cm) at Whistler, Canada has twenty six trails open on Monday. The cloudy skies on Monday will bring rain but the temperatures are set to fall on Tuesday and 4cm of snow is forecast. After Tuesday bright sunny skies are forecast for the rest of the week.In America Timberline (452cm) has reopened for snowsports, with excellent spring riding conditions. The ConwayÂ’s and Paintbrush parks are open from 9am until 2.30pm, while general lifts operations continue until 3pm. Head onto the slopes early on for the best snow. Heavy clouds are expected on Tuesday and Wednesday, which could deliver some fresh snow.
