Ski areas in The Pyrenees and the Southwestern Alps are celebrating after a big snowfall has brought deep cover to the region. Whilst large parts of the alps have not had any snow for three weeks and some not since November, this is the second successive week that a front has brought fresh snow to the continent's southwest corner, this time heavier than last. Just back from a 5 day trip to St Luc. Fantastic traditional village resort with good range of Blue + Red runs mostly in open mountain but a few through trees. Very quiet so you can ski your socks off and enjoy perfectly groomed piste and loads of off-piste powder. Mostly T-Bars and Pomas with a couple of chairlifts in the adjoining village of Chandolin. Limited apres-ski but don't miss the "Tipi" Bar at the bottom of the home-run back to St Luc - fantastic red-indian tent + wood burning fire. Staff on the hill are very friendly and helpful, though not much English spoken - which was fine. Transport from Geneva airport straight forward by train to Sierre and poste bus.
