Over the years, Bled has become very commercialised and has lost much of its charm. Imagine the most beautiful Alpine lake, an island with a church, a mediaeval castle hanging on a cliff-top and you would be in heaven. Unfortunately, all of this is wrapped in mass tourism, especially at weekends and prices are high compared to Slovenia as a whole. If you get away from the new concrete development on the lakeside (who allowed this monstrosity?) there are some wonderfully peaceful walks around the shores. My advice, however, is to make a short visit and move on to Bohinj, where you will see nature at it's most spectacular and most unspoilt.
