Snowy Weather Returns to Australia

Australian ski areas are reporting fresh snowfall, with up to 16cm (7”) reported in the last 24 hours and more snow falling and forecast.

Mt Buller has reported the biggest accumulation so far but there are similar totals for other Aussie resorts.

“We’ve had snow overnight at Hotham and it’s been keeping coming for much of the day. Athletes from around the world are here competing in the FIS/ANC Ski and Snowboard Cross – there will be some great action on the course!” said the resort’s Dani Wright.

Selwyn Snowfield, which had had to close its ski slopes due to lack of snow during a 4 week period of warmer than average, dry weather between mid-July and mid-August. Says it will now be able to reopen its slopes on Saturday 19th, August.

Most other Aussie areas have had 60-90% of their slopes open through the warm spell but are now posting much improved snow conditions.

For many this is the third snowfall in a week with more forecast. Thredbo pictured below.
