First Snowfalls of 23-24 For Eastern US

There’s been snow on high slopes in Eastern North America as conditions have turned more wintery to start this week.

The Polar Vortex has brought colder air down to the region from the Arctic in recent days. Whiteface ski area in New York state reported a third of an inch (1 cm) of snow on high slopes and there was more from Tremblant and other ski areas in Quebec to the north.

Currently hopes are high that Northeastern US as well as Quebec and Ontario will do well from the strong El Niño forecast to peak this winter.

Although this typically brings warmer, wetter weather for North-western North America, it also tends to suck in Nor’Easters which hit colder air dragged down  from the Arctic, hopefully a winning combination for ski areas of New England, Eastern Canada and the North-eastern US.

The first areas could open later this month or early in November as soon as conditions are consistently cold enough.
