Snowfall warning for North Island New Zealand Issued 24 July at 10am local time. A deepening sub-tropical depression will quickly cross North Island on Saturday accompanied by a short period of gales and heavy rain. Expect easterly blizzard conditions to develop on Ruapehu as well as the ranges from the Tararuas to the Kawekas and perhaps even further north. A Cool SE flow with further bands of snow for mountains elsewhere. Many resorts have seen more than 20cm snow over the past 24hrs.

Vaujany, in France (in the Isere region), is a large resort with 18 lifts (3 chair lifts, 7 surface lifts) that offers skiers an incredible 1700 metres (5579 feet) of vertical descent. It is part of Les Grandes Rousses ski area. Vaujany has 32 pistes. Vaujany is best suited to beginner skiers and snowboarders but there is some terrain for intermediates but little of interest for expert skiers. There are 50 kilometers (31 miles) of cross country ski trails at Vaujany. For snowboarders, there is a terrain park and a half pipe. The nearest airport is at Grenoble and the nearest train station to Vaujany is at Grenoble. Quiet village, pistes nowhere near as crowded as they are in neighbouring Alpe d'Huez. Some great reds (esp.Les Rousses)and a nice black called La Fare that can be a bit tricky when the snow is thin (it goes down to 1100m). There's some safe and relatively gentle off-piste ski-ing through the trees above Montfrais - and some much more challenging stuff off the Dome (2800m).
If you want some authentic mountain food try restaurant Passoud (by the Alpette drag lift - half way down the slope) and for the best pizzas in the area go to La Grange (just by the mid station of the big cable car).
