A severe winter storm is affecting New Zealand. Many South Island resorts have already received 10cm of snow with much more to come tonight. Colder, with further snowfalls over the next 5 days as a SE flow becomes established. Meanwhile, unusually large (4.5m) and powerful (14 second period) swells will continue to affect the Kapiti Coast north of Wellington. Storm waves will steadily ease after midnight.
