Snowsure: 4.6

(1) Occasionally gets enough snow for skiing, (2) is often closed due to a lack of snow, (3) occasionally suffers from a lack of snow, (4) rarely suffers from a lack of snow, (5) Verbier is snowsure even in the poorest seasons.

Variety of pistes: 4.8

Good off-piste opportunities in Verbier but... The 4 Vallees pass is overpriced for what it offers. The links between areas and lift infrastructure outside the Verbier area are poor with too many drag lifts and old, slow chairlifts with limited capacity. It suffers in comparison to other large linked ski areas such as Zermatt/Cervinia, 3 Vallees, Grand Massif etc. I get the feeling the area has been riding on the cachet of Verbier for too long and isn't really trying to be competitive.

As you will see from my previous posts down the years........me and the lads are heading back again to Verbs on Feb 24th '18. Still enjoying it, still "Avin it Larry" on the slopes and in the bars. Can't wait, even after what is now our 25th time to this wonderful place! See you in the Farinet or on those slopes :-) (again)!! Since my last post here in 2006, the lads and I have been back to Verbier almost every year and are visiting again on 23rd Feb 2013 for the yearly bash. Let me say I just cannot wait, Verbier with its superb slopes and equally superb apres/nightlife just hits the spot like nowhere else. What a place, what a buzz. Look out Verbier here we come (again)!! February 15, 2006 Paul M (Romford, UK) from United Kingdom I've read all these reviews and believe me the people who slate the resort obviously are too stuck up and don't know how to have a good time on ski/board holiday. Me and my mates are going back (for the 9th time on Feb 25 '06) and we cannot wait. It is without doubt the best resort for everything....skiing & boarding, off-piste, apres, nightlife etc, etc that we've ever been too. Skied for 22 years and for the past 6 years, boarding, and I can honestly say I've been most places, Zermatt, Whistler, Saas Fee, Chamonix, Meribel, Mayrhoffen etc, etc and no where even comes close to Verbier. I cannot rate it highly enough and is the only place I've been back to more than once. Do not hesitate in taking your hols there if you're young (I'm 35 now though and still love it) and are looking for a great time both on the slopes and into the early hours!!

Verbier rocks. It is one of the best hills in the world. If you can rip, it is a must stop on the punch list. If you are lucky enough for pow, it can be a special place. Who cares about the nightlife after 30,000 vertical on a pow day; a cocktail and a bed. You want to party, go to Miami. If you have never tried a tortaflate at the refuge, you have never had heaven for food on a ski hill and for that matter Chez Denny is a great end to a great day. See you on the hill.

All the complaints about the food surprise me. Have you tried the Ardoise on the splendid terrace at the Mouton Noir? Great pizzas and salads on the terrace at Dahu, traditional specialities at Chez Dany, Marmotte, Marlenaz or how about Carrefour or Au vieux Verbier closer to town? Burgers on the terrace at Clovis or La Vache? Healthy options at the Bec Braserie or Offshore for Tex-mex? Italian fare at Carlsberg? Stunning views, self service and raspberry tarts to die for at Cabane Mont Fort? And while Swiss prices are relatively expensive, the Verbier mountain restaurants relying on 1 or 2 lunch sittings in a short season are no more expensive than in Geneva, Lausanne or Vevey running all year round with lunch and dinner...

Have to agree on a couple of key points made on this site namely: 1. Skiing views lifts etc are brilliant for all levels of skiers. Runs are long, varied, well groomed and interesting. 2. Food is unacceptable, both price and quality. 3. The dear Brits..well a lot come here so naturally a certain percentage are jobs but I found the Brits I interacted with polite and careful skiers. Of course, a couple cannot take a few beers and misbehave but I wouldn't label Verbier as a lager lout town. 4. Plenty to do and see in Verbier and surrounds. 5. In my view Zermatt is better but Verbier is very close and so convenient to access; 2 hours from Geneva airport door to door by car or train/bus.

There can be no doubt that Verbier is and will remain one of the global skiing meccas for those serious about tackling challenging slopes. The off-piste is tremendous albeit that you have to be quick off the mark or it will go by lunch time.... Everyone complains about the restaurant prices both on and off the slopes. But the main issue is not only the price but the quality and diversity. Verbier rests on the geography giving it wondrous skiing and thinks that, therefore, no one cares about the food. Not so, Zermatt just down the road is spectacular for food and it is difficult to think about skiing after lunch when you taste the delights of Courmayeur. Somehow, that message does not get to the Verbier establishment. Another reviewer asks why Televebier are involved in the restaurant business. I could not agree more. Make way for those who know how to run a restaurant and perfect your pistes and gondolas ..... But do not be put off, Verbier is a resort beyond compare. Just don't go for the culinary delights it has to offer... M

I don't agree with another reviewer really. All of these reviews with their tints of animosity are a fair reflection of the atmosphere in Verbier. The social scene is dominated by the ludicrously expensive 'Farm club' and similar and unfortunately a load of rich (even by international skruggle to maintain a happy-go-lucky atmosphere). It's the sense of entitlement that wealth brings. Go to St Anton. It's got everything and is one of the happiest places I've been in the world. If you're ever been in Verbier for a low snow period you'll never go back. It's nice for kids and things I think, especially the train up from Geneva; it's really atmospheric.

Amazing ski domain and great for advanced skiers! A lot of off-piste skiing available. When crowded best hire a guide that takes you off the beaten path where you will have breathtaking views and fresh powder all to yourself. If you are an experienced skier, you will love Verbier!

A lot of reviews here are accurate. Slopes, variety, condition and views are nothing short of brilliant. Skiing is great for all here including beginners and the instructors are polite and really good. As for the scenery, it's truly brilliant and varied in each valley; cannot beat this! Location close to Geneva and transport times are also superb. Two negatives: restaurants are expensive (and the food cannot compare to Italy or Austria) and yes, bad mannered drunk Brits are a problem. For some reason they need to get dead drunk, intimidate people, swear and usually do this in a gang. My husband gave one such bully a very hard slap through his ugly mug after the thug swore at me. His mates looked as though they were going to attack us so we had to literally run for our lives!
