34 winters on my back. Been skiing this mountain since i was 5. Overpriced, usually crowded, and always the problematic lift of Sahara. Ok, i am used to all that but this year's case is unique. Like it or not, the season in Greece lasts for 2 months. For decent skiing, that is, and a bit of off-piste. On the 1st of January, with fresh snow and clear skies, the parkings were not open! We left our car 1,6 km away (from the resort) because of the traffic jam, as there was no space to park your vehicle. Yesterday (Sunday), with relatively bad conditions though, the resort was closed as they were "preparing" themselves for the following days. They even posted a ridiculous announcement, explaining how unprecedented the amount of snow was and the conditions were this year.. blah, blah, blah. It's a seasonal (60 days) job, for Christ's sake! If you are not prepared, or fully staffed this is your problem. It's not Mount Everest but a 2200m altitude (peak).
So, since all of us customers are prepared to pay you double than the other resorts, do yourselves a favour (if you respect us customers) and be prepared on time, please.

i see no point comparing Parnassos with the Alps.
it's like comparing Cyclades beaches with the ones by the lakes in the Alps. They definitely have no clear deep blue waters, less sunbathing, worst sand, basic water sports, worst beach bars and the list can go on... Not mentioning the number of beaches one can find in any island compared the just one "lake beach" in any single destination in the Alps. And they are hell too expensive per sand-mile...
Back to Parnassos, nice for beginners just a few good runs for advanced skiers, perfect for kids' lessons during weekdays. Slow lifts and small runs. But the best option one has for skiing if lives in/visiting Athens. If you want to have some weekend/day ski fun it's all you need, for serious skiing could go abroad.
A Swiss friend had once stated "I could never imagine you had a ski centre that close to Athens. Perfect to have the opportunity to ski a bit (with great snow), sunbath with Ouzo at Galaxidi (by the sea) on a beautiful sunny day followed by a night out at Arachova and next day trekking from Livadi to Delphi via Korykeion and visit of the site before heading back to Athens. Exceeded by far all my expectations for a weekend at the mountains combining outdoors, fun and culture".
Prices... it's always a matter of supply and demand. But half price, is that expensive?
The weekly card (because some love to compare with the Alps) would cost 121.50euros at Parnassos against 220-245euros at the Alps.
If you wish to ski for free, should built your own ski centre and invite me... :)
During the past 15yrs skiing at the Alps every year, I cannot recall a single restaurant where you can eat a full course with meat (not pasta or pizza) and wine under 25euros like in Parnassos.
Have fun at the mountains and Happy New Year all!

Parnassos Ski Center (Mount Parnassos): we're talking about the biggest and the most organized resort in Greece about 1.5 hours from Athens. Usually with very good snow quantity and quality. As I know, in the last 2 years a new company has taken responsibility for safety and operations and lots of new projects are taking place at Mount Parnassos.

It's 1:30 hours from Athens to the slopes of Mount Parnassos. The mountain is easily accessible and good enough for us to spend a weekend or a weekday where the slopes are practically empty. The pistes are really not that bad; there are more than 30 different runs from 1-5 km. We do have a small snow park with 3-4 proper jumps and a couple of rails. When we want to spend 1000s, yes, we do go abroad where the slopes are bigger and better.

Recently, the price-list was published for the 2008-2009 season for the Mount of Parnasus.
For people not aware of the Greek language,it must have been a mastermind, the so called "Drivas-Mind" that thought of the system used.
You actually need to use Advanced Diofantine Algorithms to Define X,Y so you can know how much you need to pay...

Mount Parnassos generally sucks. The equipment stands there by early 70s, Papadopoulos period, xaxa. Look at the lifts [except Iraklis], the eggs! pathetic and the prices, unbelievably high. Ski pass €30e, coffee €5e, cheese pie €4e, water €0,7! Why? We aren't jerks, not all of us I think. Go abroad anywhere and you will see, take your chance to other Greek resorts. Don't waste your time here. exw i kleftes...

It's so funny to read your comments my dear halphGreek friends.
I am a 31 years old Greek citizen from Athens and I am skiing since the age of 4. I was a competition skier for some years (not with very interesting results) but all those years when I am coming back from my January skiing week mainly in the Alps I adore spending the rest weekends of the year in Parnassos; just 1:30 hours door to door from my house in Athens .
Arachova is super expensive and crowded but why don't you mention the front side of the mountain (Polydrossos, Gravia and Mariolata and so many gorgeous little villages where you can stay with €30 per night and and eat with €15 /person in great traditional Tavernas?
Lots of times I was skiing in Parnassos during the morning and then, by driving for 1 hour, water-skiing or swimming in Chalkis or Aliartos (where in the world can you do that?).
Yes, it's expensive but they are trying to make the center profitable by operating just 4 months per year.
I am so glad that beautiful Parnassos (Fterolaka with it's amazing off-piste) exists.
There are northern countries like Denmark, UK, Netherlands, Belgium and more where ski fans can't spend their weekends doing their favourite sport. Don't tell me that you people are not jealous of us now.

I haven't done any skiing in Greece for 30 years, but I spend a lot of time in Greece every year and finally decided to spend some time in Parnassos this year. The conditions have been really difficult this week, but that could happen in the Alps as well. I've seen a lot of comments about the cost versus other parts of Europe, but...if you can accept the "level" of the skiing, it's about half the price. A 4 star hotel in Arachova is about the same as a cupboard in Chamonix, a day's ski hire and lift pass is about 25 euros and eating out is about 15 euros per head with wine - what's not to like?
