So good for families. I took my kids who are now very competent skiers and it was perfect. Good variety of pistes, great food, lots of parks for kids, air bags. It’s sunny and shady in equal measures. We liked Eggalm a lot, the kids hated the Tux 150 lift and the piste back across if we hit it late and it gets super busy. The kids could ski with me and by themselves due to the easy layout. Did no nightlife as we had a great half board place. They even skied the Harikari a couple of times!

Not bad. But this is because of mother nature and the
people (both local and those who comes to work).
But company "Mayrhofen Bergbahn AG" in my opinion is greedy,
they like only to take money so you couldn't see here:
no night skiing
no night shows
no toboggan piste
no attraction like skyswing, fisser flieger or serfauser sauser
no fun areas and theme pistes for children
no ski kindergarden or kinderland
no photopoint for skiline.cc
no valley run from main ski area
And yes to false advertising when they put on their map Hintertux glacier not included in normal tickets.

After a few après ski drinks at the Pilzbar (big red umbrella like a mushroom) or the Elchbar (slightly better music!), get the gondola down and go to the Brück'n Stadl. Turn right out of the Penken and go over the bridge towards the Ahorn. Ignore the Ice Bar at the bottom of the Penken (it gets very sweaty and smelly!) The music is great après ski-style with a live DJ so more interaction than in the Ice Bar, and great fun. It gets pretty full by 5 so for a good bar stool go early. Be prepared to roll out there late!

I have skied some twenty or so pretty well known resorts in Asia, France and Switzerland including Les Deux Alpes, and Mayrhofen blew me away.
It's not really Mayrhofen itself, it's the entire Zillertal valley. One ski pass gets you access to the Hintertux glacier and it's only a 20 minute bus ride away with very regular and punctual services. If it's a blue sky day just ski there, but then again there are hundreds of kilometers of bus linked and some lift linked resorts all under one reasonably priced ticket. Locals are friendly, and if you like a beer it's great, loads of the best German beers from Munich on tap.
The food is a bit bread, meat and cheese and many of the resorts don't get over 2,500 meters, it also can be busy. But with Hintertux at the top of the valley, skiing is always guaranteed.
In the next few years I'll try out Zermatt and Chamonix, however, I expect I'll be back to Austria and the Zillertal valley.

Skied Mayrhofen this year and enjoyed most aspects of what it had to offer. It was a family event. Firstly, the accommodation was a 65m2 apartment; 3 bedrooms, for 5 people which was a joy. The town is indeed picture postcard with plenty going on off the slopes; swimming/water park is great. The skiing itself is not door step for sure, but away from the busy times this was not a problem. The runs are varied with excellent mountain cafes along the way. Yes, this resorts ticks plenty of the right boxes and it must be half the costs of its Swiss and French counterparts. Booked to go to Mayrhofen for Feb 2014.

Me and my mates were in Mayrhofen last winter and had an absolute wild time. We are 6 female snowboarders from Bristol and we partied hard, real hard. We boarded around the VANS park and the Penkon, then started to party at 3.30 up top, before going to the Ice Bar by the Penkon lift. Now that place has an atmostphere with some cool people. We liked the Schlussel later, about 10.30 where the more mature guys treated us girls.
Brill hol and back for more in Feb 2013. Rocknroll

Hello, returned yesterday (come down blues :( ) from a mixed ski holiday to the resort of Mayrhofen in the Austrian Alps. There were 18 in total staying in 3 different accommodations.
Usually we get a large group chalet in France, but decided on a change of scenery this year. What a pleasant surprise I got and so did the majority of the group.
The accommodation was great, spacious, private (no chalet bores) and felt upmarket compared to the cramped French chalets. The skiing was also a surprise: plenty of reds and blues and some harder stuff for the boys who also were raving about it. However, it was the town itself I most enjoyed. What a great party town.
Overall, good skiing, superb apres, brill hotel food, spa and jacuzzi and it was voted in on the last night, unanimously to return in 2013. Can't wait.
