It is a small resort, but it's where I use to ski because it's only 2 hours away from where I live. In one hand, it is good because I can be aware of the forecasts, and when there is snow, I pack my stuff in the car, start the trip at 5 in the morning and get there by the time the station opens and return home when the lifts stop working. On the other hand, the snowfalls are rare and uncertain, and it is difficult to plan your season holidays. If you plan to ski for a week in the month before, chances are you won't get no snow at all, unless you're lucky. Anyways, when the snowfall is heavy, Manzaneda is a great place for begginer/intermediate skiing.

Perfect miniature ski station, IF it snows. Accomodation next to the pistes, lots of trees, excellent for beginners, and day trips. Night life to be had at nearbye Puebla de Trives. I live three hours away so I watch the snow reports, pack the previous day, leave early, call in sick at work on the way and drive back home after dinner

It´s a miniature station but a lot biger then Serra da Estrela, It has a mini snowpark now but when I went there it was closed. They bougth some snow cannons also but the natural snow is getting rare with the global warming, I think. If you are in North Portugal this resort is great for a 1 day if it snows.

Near the Manzaneda Station there is a rural hostal: Alberguería Os Biocos da Vía Nova (www.biocos.net). It's cheap and comfortable. Very recommended.

Manzaneda is an excellent small resort with small runs and plenty of woods. There are just two problems: not too much snow and too many people that have no idea of skiing, are dangerous drivers and always fill the parking.

I like this resort (Manzaneda) very much. I thought that they were not investing any more in improvements but I went there in December 21st and the resort was awesome. There was a lot of snow, fantastic new slopes, good organization, Manzaneda people are very friendly, the resort closes late, etc. Has only one catch. It needs a lot of snow. If you have your own board or skis be very careful about the conditions. It’s also difficult to find a good hotel to sleep over. There are a lot of expensive alternatives for the quality that is offered. Summing it up, I’m from Portugal, I live 280 km from Manzaneda and I must say that this is the best resort in a 300 km radius that we have. It takes about 3 hours so we can travel to Manzaneda from one day to the other, do some snowboard and be back home in time to dinner. For people that live in the north of Portugal, this is THE ski resort.

Manzaneda is for me one of the most beautiful ski resorts of the North-West of Spain. This year it has increased the ski area with three new slopes, having now 14,5km length. It is small but has a lot of trees and very funny slopes. I see always the weather here and always it gets right. For information about the resort I visit the oficial website manzaneda.info

Manzaneda is a labyrinth of blue and red runs down the mountain and through the forest, allowing dozens of different 2-3km routes from summit to base; Enough to never have to take the same route twice in a day, or more than twice in a weekend. Unfortunately, because of chronic snow shortage and lack of snow-making, it only opens fully for a few weekends a season so lack of staff means very poor piste maintenance. This also means that Manzaneda is not suitable for pre-planned trips but if you are in the area after a big snowfall and arrive early enough not to have to park kilometers away from the station, you could enjoy as fine a day's skiing as anywhere in the Alps or Rockies.
