We spent a week in Macugnaga over Xmas 2003 and had a fantastic time as first time skiers. The resort is geared for beginners with very patient and fun ski instructors. All the Instructors from Ski scuola macugnaga inparticular Claudio and Stef were absolutely brilliant. I recommend any family and couples to go. Make sure that you stay closer to the main ski lift because the walk in your ski boots is a killer.

Spent a family holiday (first time ski-iers) in Macugnaga, end of March 04. Excellent ski school - well done Allesandro! The resort is small but all areas are close to the lifts with a great bus service. Accomodation (Girasolle) was shabby and unfriendly. Overall, excellent place for beginners to learn the basics - highly recommended for families.

I spent March 2005 at this resort in the hotel Girasolle. I found the staff to be helpfull and polite. The main lifts where out due to a legal dispute however the holiday was not spolit. The resort I would describe as very, very, quiet. The slopes where maintained well with snow cannons and during the week only a small number of people use the slopes, however, weekends can pick up a bit. In my opinion, if you are looking for a holiday with a friendly family feel that you wish to return to each year, then this is the place. If you are a thrill seeker boarder, then give it a miss...Rich

Four of us spent last Christmas (2004) in Macugnaga at the Hotel Signal and all agree it was the best holiday ever. The resort is perfect for beginners and anyone wanting to get away from commercial, over priced, crowded resorts, then this is the place to go. The locals are charming, friendly and helpful, prices are unbelievably low - we never paid more than €5 for lunch and the welcome and hospitality at Hotel Signal made us feel we had known the owners forever. It was so good that we are returning this Christmas - the hotel prices are unbeatable €420 for seven nights with a four course dinner every evening and six courses on Christmas Day!

We have been going to Macugnaga every year for the last 5. Love it!! Everybody is really friendly and they all remember your name. We have followed Giorgio and Cristina from one hotel to the next (Either Dufour or Residence Cima Jazzi) Both Fantastic!! Highly recomend if you are bringing children or beginers, or if you just want to ski in a relaxed attmosphere.

We have just come back from our first week at the Hotel Signal at Macugnaga. The hotel was very clean and Claudio who runs the place could not be more helpful. The food was great with a couple of choices per course per night. The wine is reasonably priced and it is great to sit next to the open fire in the bar and enjoy a large G&T both before and after dinner! The hotel is really well placed. It is very close to the local pub (the Mignon Bar) which is popular with guests at most hotels. It is around 5 minutes from the Berky chairlift (in your ski-boots) and if you want to go shopping in Staffa, best put on your normal shoes as this is around 10 minutes walk on the main road. Didn't hear any bad comments about any of the places in Pecetto or Staffa. Cristallo is close to the chairlift but further from the Mignon and even further from Staffa. The Girasole, Defour and Cima Jazzi are in Staffa so are handy for the shops and bars in town but you have to rely on the ski-bus to get to the chairlift. We went to the local ski-school, in the beginners' class and by the end of the week we had come so far! The instructors were great and all the locals were really helpful. We never queued for a lift during the week and there was only a small queue at the weekend when the slopes get a little busier. There had been a little snow in the week prior to our stay but even if there has been no snowfall, don't be put off as their snow making machines do an excellent job! Saying that, you may struggle for variety if you are above intermediate level. However, we met many excellent skiers who were happy to keep on returning to Macugnaga each year.

We've been going to Macugnaga for years and have nothing but praise for this great resort. We've tried other places but there's no place like it. The hotel Cristallo is wonderful and a very short walk to the lift (under the right conditions and provided the chickens are in their sheds, it's even possible to ski back to the hotel door). Don't know what we'd do if we couldn't go to Macugnaga each year. The instructors are the very best. Great mountain restaurants. Great instructors. No queues. A FANTASTIC PLACE!

What another great stay in Macugnaga at Hotel Signal. Claudio is the best host ever. There was plenty of snow, infact I have never seen so much snow. People are great and food is excellent. Don't think we will ever stop going to Macugnaga. We took some of our friends who couldn't ski and they loved it. Great place for beginners. Easy to reach with loads of cheap flights available.
