Snowsure: 4.0

(1) Occasionally gets enough snow for skiing, (2) is often closed due to a lack of snow, (3) occasionally suffers from a lack of snow, (4) rarely suffers from a lack of snow, (5) Kobla is snowsure even in the poorest seasons.

Variety of pistes: 5.0

(1) The ski runs are featureless and unvaried, (3) the ski runs are varied but not extensive enough for a week, (5) Kobla has diverse and interesting pistes including forests and high alpine terrain.

Off-piste: 5.0

(1) No off-piste worth mentioning, (2) off piste is out-of-bounds, (3) some varied offpiste that stays fresh for one or two days, (5) a vast array of off-piste routes that can stay untracked for several days.

Scenery: 5.0

(1) No designated luge or toboggan runs, (3) there are toboggan runs that open quite often, (5) Kobla has long and well maintained luge / toboggan facilities suitable for all ages.

(1) Nowhere to buy food by the pistes, (3) some places to eat up on the mountain but they are often busy and expensive, (5) there is a variety of excellent mountain eateries right next to the slopes to suit all budgets.

(1) Bring your own food, there isn't even a shop. (5) A wide variety of places to eat and drink in the resort, from fast food to fancy restaurants.

Apres-Ski: 3.0

(1) Nothing to do, not even a bar, (3) there are a few bars in the resort but nothing special, (5) clubs and bars stay open until very late and have a friendly atmosphere.

Other Sports: 4.0

(1) No sports facilities at all apart from ski lifts, (3) resort has just a small public swimming pool, (5) resort has all kinds of sports facilities, including a full-size swimming pool.

Entertainment: 4.0

(1) Besides the snow and walking there is nothing to do here, (3) the non-skier will find things to do for few days but may become bored after a week, (5) the resort area is a fascinating place to visit, regardless of winter sports.

Winter Walks: 5.0

(1) Very limited walking and no snowshoe trails, (3) a couple of designated scenic walking/snowshoe trails, (5) extensive and diverse winter walking trails for all abilities.

Ski Pass Value: 4.0

(1) A 1 week ski pass is overpriced compared to the number of lifts available, (3) the ski pass is averagely priced and covers a reasonable number of lifts, (5) ski passes are excellent value for money and cover a lot of lifts spanning a big area.

I have just returned from skiing at Kobla where we had over two metres of snow throughout the week. The runs were in excellent condition and some of the most beautiful skiing I have experienced. The runs are not extensive however there are several nearby resorts accessible by free bus. Ideal skiing for beginner and intermediate skiing although there is the odd testing run. I boarded in the Bohinj resorts in early Feb06 and even though a fresh dump of snow would have been good, the weather was great and overall conditions were excellent. The runs from the top of the mountain are a good length and good fun - lower slopes would suit beginners. Check it out. TC

Stayed in Kobla 12/2-19/2. Took the kids for the first time. The resort was perfect for the kids. The ski school was excellent as was the equipment. The snow was excellent top to middle but a little wet lower down. Not very extensive skiing but very quiet and no queues!!! Vogel is only 10 minutes away for harder skiing. Stayed with Don & Kerry at the Kobla Mountain Retreat halfway up the Mountain!! Thoroughly recommend staying there. Hearty breakfast and excellent dinners. Visited Kobla and stayed with Kerry and Don in their home halfway up the mountain side 1 - 4 March 2007. Woke up every morning to the sight of Triglav from our bedroom window. We are not skiers but spent our days walking and taking in the beautiful views of the surrounding area. Many photo opportunities of Kobla, Bohinj, Bled and Vogul. Kerry and Don made us very welcome and I cannot imagine a better location, recommend you try it out. We have already booked ourselves in for a week in September to swim in the lake, walk, enjoy the views and may even have a go at white water rafting. Ski resort Vogel begin work 8.1.2008, because before there was not enough (natural) snow and snow cannons for artificial snow are not installed/permitted, because Vogel is in Triglav National Park , On the contrary, on Kobla, skiing was possible already in Christmas-tide on artificial snow. (chair lift "Kozji hrbet"), but ski resorts on Krvavec or in Kranjska Gora are not so far from Bohinj too.

Small resort and lifts are in serious need of updating - but the runs are good, people friendly and overall a large bundle of charm. It's a truly beautiful part of the world. Also recommend a stay with Don Childs at his mountain chalet (winter or summer) with his hearty stews, right on the side of the Kobla run.

Just Heard that Kobla will not open this season (2011-2012). However, better news is that they have started work cutting timber to clear ski runs for the new resort that is to be built between Kobla and Sorica (and linked to both).

This resort is closed again this winter (12/13) and its future totally reliant on the planned redevelopment and addition of ski runs, which was supposed to have happened this year but has been delayed on account (apparently) of delays in obtaining landowner consents. They now say that work will start in Spring 2013 with the first phase opening 13/14. This only leaves Vogel open for ski and boarding in the Bohinj area, and Soriska Planina 18km away.

Kobla is still closed as of February 2014. According to the fellow who runs a ski hire place at the foot of the lifts, the resort is still looking for an investor. Given the location (on the edge of a popular tourist town), one would imagine this could be more than viable.

After lengthy delays work has, at last, started on the replacement resort for Kobla. Called 2864, the new resort will originate from the old Kobla resort and link to the small resort at Sorisca Planina, forming the largest ski area in Slovenia.
