Faraya Mzaar is great with nice slopes, good snow and friendly people but my stay at Intercontnental Mzaar was like a nightmare. With bad management and bad communication it's unfair for it to be a 5 stars hotel.

I came to Mzaar after a colleague took a school trip to Les Elfes. Apart from an unfortunate storm which took out two days, the skiing was better than average European ski areas with very good hotel management. Slope grooming might have been better at Mzaar, and the lifts, although old, seemed to be well maintained. There's a shortage of apres-ski at Mzaar, but apart from that, Lebanese people were more than welcoming and there aren't many drunks to spoil your day. In short, plenty here for competent skiers, families and groups. Loved it.

Great slopes, great season 'til now. The parking complaints come from people who show up late and leave at closing time or even after. Hoping to see a bigger park and less technical issues and hopefully new slopes. The team tries its best, so does the administration.

To whoever, Any person, who feels offended by going to Mzaar or feels like his ego is more important than being there or have another way of thinking may gladly go ski anywhere he likes and we will be glad. No one obliged you to come here, nor anyone is trying to keep you here. So please spare us and don't ever come back. We are glad about this resort, we like the way it is crazily run and we like the rotting chairs and whatever you call it. [note from the editor: text edited slightly for sake of relevance]

Nightmare and disastrous roads and pistes. Snobbism and vulgar people. Apocalyptic and stressful while trying to do something you really enjoy... Oh and expensive!

Since 2003 I go to Faraya: 2008 will be my 6th season. I live in Damascus and love to go there for weekends skiing. I say the scenery is great: views on the Med and on Beirut from the slopes; closeby ancient Roman temple and a beautiful arch in the rocks. In March and April you can ski on what they call "Firn" in Austria in the mornings and have an icecream on the seaside in Beirut in the afternoon. There is skiing for all levels incl kids and plenty of off-piste as well. I recommend for a long weekend only if you are more then advanced. The lifts are slower and older, but sufficient. Plenty of hotel choices for different budgets.

Yes... Mzaar. I see the endless complaints by the locals about .... well, about everything! I see one reviewer complaining about plastic surgery, I see another telling us it should be operated as a public service like a bus line, another thinks it's expensive... on and on and on. Remarkable, is it not, that visitors, from all parts of the globe, are more appreciative of the opportunity to ski on fresh deep natural snow? With that in mind, this review is best suited to non-lebanese and/or travellers. I live in the middle east (Jordan this year) and have only been once to Mzaar, weekday with my fam (3 kids). The service, standards, and equipment are on a par with most ME situations: Damascus, Egypt, Amman, Morroco, Qatar, Yemen, etc... Dubai doesn't count. Weak infrastructure, mediocre to poor logistics/planning by management. But! Great snow, decent grooming, great prices (you want expensive - try Les Arcs, or Alta, or Whistler), and great people. Snack stuff available on the slopes 'chalet-style', and you can know the whole thing out in about 2 days. Great/unusual views. It's nice to have a skiing option in the region - it's a luxury. Like everything else y'all complain about - take it to the source. Complaining here won't help.
