What's it like at Bardonecchia resort?

Bardonecchia is a sizable town with a pretty good sized ski area. Bardonecchia would make an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding French and Italian resorts. For this you would need a car. The resort offers 140 km of pistes that should amuse the beginner-intermediates but the experts will find the terrain a bit dull. The lift system may be a bit old, a common problem with Italian resorts, but Bardonecchia is quiet in the week so there are rarely any queues. At the weekend there is an influx of skiers from Turin and the resort can become crowded. Off the piste, the town of Bardonecchia lacks the charm of many alpine resorts, but it was primarily a transport town in the past. There are some excellent hotels and the nightlife is more sip than slurp which is not always a bad thing!

Nancy from Italy writes:

We have been coming here for twelve years and enjoyed every holiday.
The town is very friendly, the skiing is invariably good, though particularly so this year as in many other resorts. The facilities other than skiing are excellent and we would thoroughly recommend this resort. There is a free bus service in the town and up to Jafferau which offers more skiing out with the main sites of Colomion and Melezet. There is a lot of skiing without long connecting runs. Around forty minutes will take you to Monginevro, Oulx, Sestriere, Ceasana and San Sicario or Claviere or to French escorts through the Frejus Tunnel, if you want to experience other resorts.
Buone vacanze.
