Bad Hofgastein, in Austria (in the Salzburg region), has 42 lifts (including 10 chair lifts and 17 surface lifts) and offers skiers an incredible 1460 metres (4790 feet) of vertical descent. Bad Hofgastein ski area is connected to the other villages of Dorf Gastein and the Sport Gastein area. Bad Hofgastein is best suited to intermediate skiers and snowboarders but there is some terrain for beginners and advanced skiers. There are 90 kilometers (56 miles) of cross country ski trails at Bad Hofgastein. For snowboarders, there is a terrain park and a half pipe. Over half of the pistes at Bad Hofgastein are covered by snowmaking. The closest airport is at Salzburg but the transfer time is 1.5 hours. The nearest train station to Bad Hofgastein is at Bad Hofgastein. Beautiful village, great accommodation with Alpenthereme but the skiing is not for me, even my husband found them challenging. Anything less the strong intermediate will not get much skiing at this resort, even the blues are extremely challenging steep, narrow and often icy. Reds would probably be better but too steep for me to enjoy. But that is the same in most of Austria because it’s such steep terrain. So, if you're looking for long flowing blues you won’t find any here. Wish I had found a review like this before I went. But the resort is superb to relax in. Also, there is a lot of waiting around for buses even if they are free,
