When the North Face (under the tram) is open at Alyeska, the mountain goes from fun airs and very scenic views on the front side, to full on burly freeride resort on par with any. When the Christmas and New Years chutes also open on the North Face of Alyeska, it rides as steep as Jackson, Squaw or Snowbird, only you won't wait in a line for the tram! These chutes go 45 to 50 degrees for the first several hundred meters, funnel to 6 meters, than open up to 700 meters vert of steep wide open terrain...add 700' snow and your odds are good for soft stuff. If only the front side is open, there are still some steep options, but difficult to traverse to on a snowboard. The skiers rule here, but boarders seem to air it out off the catwalk pretty frequently and have fun too. $120 can get one a room and ticket and the very nice and conveniently located resort hotel--winter is actually off season for them.

My local resort when growing up. Don't go there. It's terrible. Skiing is crap and the people are unfriendly. It's flat and too cold to ski 11 and 1/2 months of the year. It's dark all year round. Nothing to eat either. Nothing to see or do. Veritably the third world but not quite that developed. And did I mention they are all cannibals. Stay where you are.

There are restaurants in the hotel at Alyeska Resort, not to mention at the bottom of the slopes. It's not dark all year at all and you can snowboard way more than a half month. People were cannibals..this beats me?

Don't go to Alyeska Resort. It's not good at all. People steal your skis and you get ripped off.

I went to the Alyska (Alyeska Resort) a couple of years ago in January and had a great holiday - great skiing, good food, and a very pleasant atmosphere in the hotel.

Alyeska Resort is an excellent skiers hill: good steeps and chutes when the outer areas are open. Hill is small when outer areas are closed. Try spring riding up here, weather warms up and Girdwood valley sees more sun. Unbelieveable spring dumps on some years. Definintly worth a shot if your in Alaska. Also cat and heli skiing from the resort is epic. Come check out Chugach National Forest and the rest of Southcentral AK.

Yah, I wouldn't recommend it either. My youngest almost got eaten there! Kidding, but all around seem hungry + moving too fast to be up to any good.
