A paradise in the Austrian state of Salzburg, Zell am See is located along the shores of the Zell Lake and surrounded by mountains like the 2000-metre high Schmittenhöhe. It is an important ski centre in the winter and a hiking and mountain-biking paradise during summer.
The area has been occupied since Roman times, but the village was founded around the year 740 by the order of Bishop Johannes I of Salzburg. The picturesque Old Town includes typical Alpine style buildings, as well as the oldest building of the region, St. Hippolyte's Church. The Austrian area of Zell am See offers a wide range of hotels, B&B’s, apartments, and guest houses.
The leisure centre has a covered pool, a sauna and steam bath, and special facilities for kids. Zell am See is a gateway to the Hohe Tauern National Park, the biggest of the Alps and Austria’s oldest.
The nearby town of Kaprun is home to the 12th-century Kaprun Castle and the Kitzsteinhorn glacier. Salzburg Airport is 100 km away, while Sixt Innsbruck Airport is 150 km away. Zell am See is a town on the route of the Transalpin train.
Zell am See is a town on the route of the Transalpin train. We stayed for one night before our journey across the alps to Zurich. If you don't ski, there is little to do in town when it's cold outside besides a stroll along the beautiful lake and a visit to shops and restaurants. One 24-hour period was enough for us to see and do everything. The location of the train station made this a very easy place to visit.

Zell am See didn't have the quaint alps village feel at all, more like a regular large town, the high street was very disappointing.
The scenery of the lake and mountains was breath taking. Simply beautiful.
Snow for skiing in Feb 24 was absolutely awful given the low altitude! A lot of mud patches on the lower runs rendering them unusable. I would consider elsewhere for skiing option tbh. The ski resort was small and good for beginners/families primarily.
I felt very safe walking around the town.

We loved Zell am See.
We loved Zell am See. From the ease of getting here (the train from Salzburg is clean, quick and on time), to the scenery, beautiful town and great people. Everyone was pleasant to deal with, the facilities are excellent (although watch out for the supermarkets closing early compared to the UK) and the skiing is brilliant. Lift queues were generally short. However, as expected, everything is expensive!

What I like the most: Friendly staff, free use of washing machine and dryer at the lobby, underground garage, spacious living room and fully equipped kitchen, near the lake for a leisure walk and near to town and near to a lot of ski lifts and cable car to Schmittenhöhe
What I don like: nothing. Just be sure not to have a late check in so that you can seek for help before the reception close

Zell am See is truly beautiful.
Zell am See is truly beautiful. We had an amazing week of skiing with an excellent ski guide (Thomas Hager, https://www.alpin-guide.com/eng/), who added so much to our ski holiday experience. The town of Zell am See has an array of great restaurants, bars and shops. We travelled over the Christmas period and the place was festive with lots of Christmas spirit in the air! We would highly recommend a trip to Zell am See.

Zell am See is a proper small town with a lovely pedestrian...
Zell am See is a proper small town with a lovely pedestrian zone and not just a ski resort. It is located on one side of a beautiful lake, surrounded by mountains. There's a good choice of places to eat and drink and I particularly like the Gin House and Steinerwirt. I get the sense it's quite a good place for a mixed group of those who ski/snowboard and those who don't, but it's particularly good for skiers as there are several lift options from and around the town, so wherever you stay you'll probably be close to one of the base lifts. Accommodation on the hill just above the town will have great views and, provided you leave your equipment at a base station or have a car, the walk is quite pleasant.
Central location.
Near to post bus stand.
Nice room.
Welcome was warm and staff explained everything very well.
This is a family run traditional hotel which is hundred of years old I guess. Once you step in it takes you back in time.
Staffs wear traditional dresses most of the time which really gives you a special authentic feeling about your holiday in Austria.
Definitely pocket friendly than other hotels in zell am see for a family and almost last minute booking.
A gorgeous and modern hotel complete with a sauna in the room! It was a very pleasant stay and the staff were very helpful and accommodating. It was an absolute bonus to be given access to so many unique offers and activities in the region such as a boat ride on Zell am See and a hike through Sigmund-Thun-Klamm. They even gave us a little gift which included 2 bottles of water for our journey home which was very thoughtful!
Very clean and comfortable room.. The photos on booking.com 100% reflect what we found. Fully equipped kitchenette. Sauna available everyday, Bus stop in front of the building entrance. The ski bus ran on limited days but you could take another bus to the ski bus. Very nice owner, told us the history of the house and family. House located in a quieter part of Zell am see but it depends on who prefers what.
Really liked the hosts. They are so friendly beyond expectations. Even when restaurant is closed they will find something for you. The receptionist and two ladies for breakfast. They are really stylish as well and speak many languages. If You ski than location is really good because its between slopes and the city. There is an outside cafe with music, so it can be fun just to stay in hotel.
If you come to ZELL AM SEE to ski / snowboard, this is a super convenient hotel. Top location (on the Main Street) - all restaurants and shops are nearby, bus to Kaprun is across the road, cityXpress ski lift is just a few houses away, Achleitner (very nice rental shop for skiing equipment) - also across the street. Very friendly staff. Breakfast OK, but gets repetitive on day 3.
The place is - wow! Beautiful location, wonderful facilities, great hosts, exceptional architecture! Although the hotel is not right on the lakeside - it has its own beach with private access for guests - 3 min walking distance. The hotel is on the opposite side of the lake from the town of Zell am See - close enough to drive to downtown and far enough away from its crowds.
The staff were very friendly and the breakfast had plenty to choose from.
We have stayed in Zell am See at least 30 times, and it's the first time we've stayed at Edelweiss B&B. I've seen a lot of reviews about the noise outside, but I didn't think it was too bad; some of the hotels closer to the centre are a lot noisier.
Appartment have great location for winter (4 minutes by car to the skilift Schmittenhohe), and also for summer (beach by the zell am see is just across the street).
The owner has Whatsapp account and if you need something, they are very helpful and fast..
Appartment is good for value..
Hotel location, staff hospitality, specious room with amazing location. breakfast buffet was indeed outstanding and exceptional.
wonderful stay and will for sure make this hotel my point of destination always. thanks to Grand hotel staff for their exceptional hospitality and kindness.
everything was perfect. staff at the reception, as well as the waiter at the bar. I still have to highlight the relaxation center with sauna. also the price was very friendly. I recommend the quiet hotel to everyone and when I travel to Zell am See again I will see you again.
Beautiful hotel in gorgeous Zell am See. Everything points towards the Lake. Hotel really well kitted out - coffee machine, robes, towels for swimming and spa, free hire of water sports equipment like paddle boards. Professional staff. Will definitely return.
I really like the hotel, it has a great location, clean & tidy, charming lake view, and most importantly the hotel manager Mr. Dirk Maes, he is super nice, caring, and really taking care of every detail. I enjoyed Zell am see and enjoyed staying at Magali’s.
Great hotel, staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. Food was good after a days skiing. Location was great for access to Kaprun and Zell am see.
