Dinner plain looks like a set from a spaghetti western, tired run down with very poor environmental garbage collection. The management committee need to have a serious look at the future direction this village needs to take as it is very clear it is not going well.

We enjoyed the sled dog racing that was being held that weekend.Prefer to stay on mountain at Hotham but definitely better than staying completely off mountain and the commute to Hotham was fairly straightforward. We ate at the High Plains hotel - the food and service was good.

Dinner Plain is a small and quiet village in the mountains.
Dinner Plain is a small and quiet village in the mountains. The location offers great options for hiking and cycling (road and mountain). If you visit during Summer you will find many businesses are closed - so be prepared, bring sufficient food and supplies. Closest options for supplies are a limited supermarket at Hotham Heights (The General) or the Foodworks at Omeo. The pub (Hotel High Plains) and the Club Wyndham are open during Summer. The Dinner Plain Hotel is currently closed (Jan 2022).

Dinner Plain is a beautiful area.
Dinner Plain is a beautiful area. It was cold, refreshing, and sunny, everything one would expect in a highland country. The walks around the village are great and a short drive to Hotham finishes off magnificent walks up in the sky with the best views possible. The two pubs, resort-style places open in late November for food and drinks were good. The houses around Dinner Plain are unique and not seen anywhere else. It is indeed a different place.

Dinner Plain is a very good place to stop at for a night or two if you are doing a road trip along the Great Alpine Road. Most of the accommodation places there are joined onto or are very close to others. You will need to be prepared to pay a little bit extra if you want to have the best kind of accommodation facilities there. Dinner Plain is good for skiing and tobogganing during the winter months, and it is good for nature walks during the summer months. If you go there during summer you can test yourself on the orienteering trail to see if you can manage to find all 10 of the markers.
The property had a lot of charming quirky features with every inch of the house being well thought of in design. It was very cozy and comfortable with everything provided including fire wood, board games, DVD's etc. The bedrooms were all large and the beds were very comfortable. The linen pack made it feel like we were in a luxurious hotel. I didn't miss my bed at all which is very unusual when staying away from home. We loved sitting around the fire place on the window seats enjoying the view.
Stayed three nights in school holidays for a snow stay. Plenty of space for family of four - had beds for 6 and could fit that many without it being too cramped. Kids loved the loft room. Great location right in the centre of Dinner Plain, close to shops, pub etc. Key code entry very easy. Appreciated the washing machine and dryer. Nice big open fireplace with firewood provided. Beds clean and comfortable.
Everything was good except for no breakfast being available - not even a continental breakfast - which was very disappointing for an establishment such as this - although it did appear to be a problem in the whole of Dinner Plain we could of at least been advised of this prior to our stay.
It was cozy, had a really unique design and felt like a nice cabin in the woods. The bathroom was spacious, the kitchen had all the cutlery and kitchenware we needed, and it was right in the heart of dinner plain.
Dinner Plain is a small hop from Mt Hotham, literally 10-15 minutes drive which is wonderful. The apartment is a few metres walk from the bus stop and most of the (small amount of) restuarants in Dinner Plain.
