Best Scottish Snow Conditions for Several Years

Several Scottish ski centres are today experiencing one of the best snow days for several years following heavy snowfall over the past 72 hours.

The snowfall arrived after several weeks of sub-zero temperatures post-Christmas in which centres were able to open limited terrain, and build a modest base for the new snow.

With the heaviest of the snowfall arriving from the north and west, conditions are particularly good at west coast resorts Nevis Range (pictured top and above today) and Glencoe (below).

The latter reports that 60 to 70cm of fresh snow has fallen in the last 72 hours meaning that all runs on the mountain now have a great cover of windblown fresh snow.

“This should provide some amazing skiing from the summit all the way to the car park. All lifts can now run if needed and the weather tomorrow is looking pretty good with light to moderate westerly winds and some light snow showers forecast. Enjoy!” a Glencoe statement reads.

Nevis Range have terrain open from the Summit to the Top Station today.

At Cairngorm (webcam image this morning) the centre’s Snow Patrol are reporting some great snowsports on offer with packed powder on the Lady, M1 and Cas side.

There are several routes possible to the bottom of the slopes via the Lower Slopes and Home Road.

The piste basher machines are currently grooming out some major drifting on the M2

There’s not been so much snow in the East but The Lecht has half-a-dozen lifts operating and Glenshee (Pictured below this morning) issued a statement this saying things are good there too.

More snow is forecast over the next few days, but lighter and with sunny periods.
