Snowfall warning for North Island New Zealand Issued 24 July at 10am local time. A deepening sub-tropical depression will quickly cross North Island on Saturday accompanied by a short period of gales and heavy rain. Expect easterly blizzard conditions to develop on Ruapehu as well as the ranges from the Tararuas to the Kawekas and perhaps even further north. A Cool SE flow with further bands of snow for mountains elsewhere. Many resorts have seen more than 20cm snow over the past 24hrs.

Ždiar is a traditional village, 30km north of Poprad, in the eastern part of High Tatras, near the Polish border and Strednica is the larger of the two nearby ski resorts (the other being Bachledova Dolina). Indeed, in terms of transport capacity, the ski resort at Zdiar - Strednica with its 5,530 person per hour lift is the largest ski area in the whole of the Tatra mountains. Strednica offers exclusively beginner to early-intermediate skiing on 12 easy slopes; great for families with children. here is a reasonably good snow record. The distance to Stary Smokovec is 33 km (fourty minutes by car in the winter season).

Ideal slopes for beginners, like me, who pick up things quickly! :) Great place to get to grips with the drag lifts and a nice spot at the top for a beer or bite to eat and great value for money.
