Snowfall warning for North Island New Zealand Issued 24 July at 10am local time. A deepening sub-tropical depression will quickly cross North Island on Saturday accompanied by a short period of gales and heavy rain. Expect easterly blizzard conditions to develop on Ruapehu as well as the ranges from the Tararuas to the Kawekas and perhaps even further north. A Cool SE flow with further bands of snow for mountains elsewhere. Many resorts have seen more than 20cm snow over the past 24hrs.

Tauplitz is a traditional Austrian resort that has benefited from recent modernisation. It is located 1.5 hours southeast of Salzburg and 1.5 hours southwest of Linz airports. The resort is small and had a reputation for too many drags. However, a 6-seater chair should change that. It is seldom over-crowded at Tauplitz and it has some good skiing to offer.

Now live in Tauplitz and own small hotel (www.pensionraunigg.com), thought the resort would be too small for experienced skiers to enjoy - wrong! Off piste and tree skiing is excellent (often waist deep powder!!) and safer than most places. Tauplitz might not have the km of skiing of larger resorts but has a modern lift system and no queues and offers something for all abilities from beginner to advanced whether skier or boarder. The lift pass also covers you at 3 other resorts that are all good and worth a trip to.

....And what to say about the snow - 5.7m last season and this season has started off better!
