Went to Swinhope yesterday for the first time 'outdoor snow skiing' in the UK in more than 10 years. First, let me say that it's difficult to find as the road leading up to the lifts from the 689 is little more than a single track road right after a petrol station. Also the road up to the lifts needs you to be in either a 4x4 or equiped with snow chains. Having neither I opted to walk and I can tell you it's one heck of a trek with ski boots and skis to carry too. Next time I will definitely have chains available.

Up in the bowl at Swinhope you have a wide area of terrain that can be accessed off the two old Poma lifts and you would be well advised to keep the lift in sight if you don't want to end up doing yet more walking. No runs seem to be marked and so it's pretty much up to you to decide what to ski. I found the odd sheet of wind blown ice and plenty of nice virgin powder snow to play in, I only wish I wasn't so knackered from the walk up.
