Initially snow will only settle above about 1700m but by Tuesday it will fall to resort levels. Moderate to heavy snowfalls then continuing for several more days. Snow showers in New Zealand becoming confined to eastern areas including Mt Ruapehu on Sunday and Monday. Fine and frosty weather for most areas.

Just an hour from Innsbruck, Sölden (Solden) is a snow-sure high altitude resort that offers year-round skiing and boarding on the Tiefenbach glacier. Great pistes beg to be carved while off-piste is in plentiful supply too. The base lifts can have quite long queues first thing. Off the piste, Sölden (Solden) is well served but expensive, probably due to its proximity to Innsbruck. Plenty to see and do but take lots of cash if you want to do it every night!

We skied in Solden 1 year in three for the past 20-odd years. It's fun, if you keep out of the town in the evening; January-March it tends to be populated by drunken Dutch. Pistes are well maintained, and with sufficient variability. Work out your late route home - if you are staying at the Giggijoch gondola end, you can stay in Rokogelhutte until the crowd has gone, go LEFT down apast Giggijoch and ski straight down, perhaps having another drink at Eugen's just below Hochsolden. If you are staying at the other end of town near the Gaislachkogelbahn station, go down to the RIGHT from either side of the Hutte, and stop at either of the two Huttes on run 11 for another, but take care when you get on to run 8 because there's ice patches. It's a lovely run down.
