Snowfall warning for North Island New Zealand Issued 24 July at 10am local time. A deepening sub-tropical depression will quickly cross North Island on Saturday accompanied by a short period of gales and heavy rain. Expect easterly blizzard conditions to develop on Ruapehu as well as the ranges from the Tararuas to the Kawekas and perhaps even further north. A Cool SE flow with further bands of snow for mountains elsewhere. Many resorts have seen more than 20cm snow over the past 24hrs.

Snowbird, in the United States (Utah State), is a large resort with 12 lifts (10 chair lifts, 2 surface lifts) that offers skiers an impressive 988 metres (3240 feet) of vertical descent. Snowbird has 2500 acres of terrain over 85 trails. Snowbird is best suited to intermediate skiers and snowboarders but there is some terrain for beginners and advanced skiers. We have no information about the existence of any cross country ski trails at Snowbird. For snowboarders, there are 2 terrain parks and 2 half pipes. A small proportion of the trails at Snowbird are covered by snowmaking. The nearest airport is at Salt Lake City and the nearest train station to Snowbird is at Salt Lake City. There is accommodation located close to the pistes but we would welcome additional information about any hotels or chalets in Snowbird.

Incredibly easy access via SLC Airport - 45 minute trip. Leave Boston at 6am and ski the afternoon.

Alta/Snowbird is for the dedicated skier. Ski almost all the terrain of both areas. Fabulously light snow and lots of it.

Mineral Basin is vast and breathtaking. Easy access to both Alta and Snowbird from here.

Not a lot of night life, but if you want to enjoy these areas, you will need your rest anyway.

The Cliff Lodge is worth the money. Hot Tub and heated pool on the roof. End of day watch the last runs while you get the lactic acid out of your legs in the tub.
